Wes, I'm terribly sorry to hear that your going through that. I may well be in the same boat with my sweet Lucy. She's 14 and has been the absolutely sweetest cat I've ever had (and I've had quite a few in my 30+ years of cat ownership!). She's been displaying some problems and been back and forth to the vet for almost two weeks. Heartbreaking to see animals (especially the exceptionally sweet ones) age and losing their health. Bless you all, hang in there buddy and don't let the "good memories" be the ones that hurt you! :)

Thanks for your kind words. It seems like it should be easier with an older pet. But it isn't. It just gives you that much longer to become attached. I'm very sorry about your Lucy's declining health. It gets hard to watch sometimes. If the pet hangs on (like ours did), it puts you in a really awkward position after a while. I will never feel like we made the right choice. We just made the only choice. And it hurts.

Hang in there Wes!
It's never an easy decision on the heart, ever. The mind knows what's right but the heart doesn't understand that decision at all.
Wishing Peace upon your hearts.

So sorry to hear about your precious 'fur baby' Wes. I think every pet owner has had to go thru that. I have had it happen twice, and each time the sadness was just as deep as with any family member. Your heart, tho broken, will heal, and you will go on, but all the happy memories will live forever. Just know that you loved him enough to end his suffering. Like a loving papa, you hung in there with him til the end, and I know he was grateful for that.

Give yourself some time Wes. You are strong! My goodness, you didn't light up a stinkie! That's something to celebrate! We're here for you, we are Halon...

Tough announcement. We lost our cat of almost 15 years today. It was impossibly hard watching him these past couple of weeks as he lost weight, stopped eating and drinking and became nearly comatose. Finally, we made the decision to end his agony.

I bring this here because I consider you all friends, and we're hurting in this house. But more to the point, I bring it here, because not only did I not smoke, I wasn't even tempted. During this tragedy, one amazing success has been pointed out: these life saving devices.

Thanks for listening to me.

Sorry for your loss Wes. We lost 2 furry friends in the last 5 years and it's tough. I was crying like a baby when the doc put the needle in on Bogie our 17 year old cat.

I hope this helps:

That means a lot Goph. We talk about the Rainbow Bridge, too. I'm very sorry for your loss as well, and for helping to make you remember it. 17 years is such a long time to get bonded/attached. As I now know, just shy of 15 is plenty, too. Hell, I can't imagine losing a pet I'd known for a month. It's never the right time.

Well my son called from the State finals. First let me say he is pumped up for next year and has a plan to be prepared next year in more events. He said "Mom I just planned to give it my all from the first step. I shot off the start and I had a huge lead on everyone, nobody was close to me, then I tripped over the 3rd hurdle and took several stumbled steps and they all caught up to me. I came in 5th in my heat but I've learned alot, I going to break records next year in more events. They said if I hadn't stumbled I would have broken the state record."

This mom is very proud. :)
