A few weeks ago, I went to the doctor with some medication issues, and while there, informed him I'd quit smoking Feb 12 by way of electronic cigarettes. He was ecstatic (only word for it), and went on for 20 minutes telling me what to expect over the next several months as my body adjusted to the changes, etc. We didn't talk ecigs. We talked not smoking. And, yeah, got my medicines adjusted - dropped one entirely, lowered my cholesterol meds by half, and I walked out pretty happy with myself.

Fast forward to today. It's been 2 months since I quit smoking.

Doctor's MA comes in first, checks my 3-inch thick file.

Are you using tobacco?

No! I quit smoking 2 months ago on February 12th.

Hey, that's great! Are you still on these meds....?

No! Dropped one last time I was in, cholesterol med down 50%.

Ah, yeah, I see it. Ok, let's take your blood pressure... 116 over 80. Last was 130 over 90. That's pretty good.

Yay! The ecigs really worked for me! I'm still getting a little bit of nicotine, but I'm down to 6mg and 0mg. Mostly hanging onto my ecigs for the ritual, and the fun of it.

She looks at me kind of strange and shakes her head.

Did you get them from the mall?

Hell, no. Those things are horrible, overpriced, taste like crap
[sorry mods], and aren't worth my time let alone the time of day.

Well, I wish I could get my sister to try e cigarettes.

She smokes? Here, take this card. I'm not affiliated, this just happens to be the best brand of ecigs ever! (I hand over SI's card)

These are good?

Yeah, great batteries and product, and lots of fun bling.

Bling.

She laughed.

She walks out, with the card.

Doctor walks in 10 minutes later, shakes my hand.

So, how are those ecigs working for you?

(Big grin) They're working great! I'm feeling great! I'm happy! I'm hoping we can cut down on this cholesterol medicine, maybe get a generic? My insurance has an extortion plan going that I cannot afford. Is there a generic for this stuff?

So, how much nicotine are you using now? You know, this [brand name cholesterol med] just went generic, I think we can cut the mg in half, again, too.

6mg mostly, but getting into a lot of 0mg flavors. I'm sorry, but Butterscotch tastes so good I had to make sure I got 0mg because I can't seem to put it down. I still have a 12mg for real stressful times, but I don't even use that very often now. Yay for generic meds! No more insurance extortion! $4 beats the hell out of $70.

So, where did you get your ecigs? Online? What do you think of those ones they have at the flea market or the mall?

Stay away from flea markets and mall kiosks. Their batteries aren't that great, they cost too much, they don't have any real flavor, you could get stuck with an unwanted contract... just don't do it. Get the better ones from online. Better batteries, last longer, backed by customer service, and plenty of bling options and flavors to choose from. Smokeless Image is talking about opening stores, but if you go to a store, make sure that is what the store is all about, and not another mall kiosk.

Flavors? They have flavors? How long do the batteries last? What kind of bling?

(I laughed) All kinds of flavors, if you want to use liquids. Plenty of flavors for prefilled cartridges, too. (I pull out my Volt 78 with the star spangled banner battery wrap.) The time of the batteries depends on how heavy one vapes at it. It could be 3 or 4 hours or all day. But, that's why it is a good idea to have a second battery, one to charge while using the other. There are different size batteries, too. My new one will last 2 to 3 days before recharging.

Hey, that's cool! (about my flag battery). I suppose they make cases and stuff too?

I pulled out the Volt case and opened it up.

Well, yeah. This one holds plenty of batteries and a USB charger...

Oh, that's cool, just plug it into a computer?

Yep. Also holds extra carts, about anything I want to carry, really.

Well, that's pretty neat. How much does it cost, about the same as cigarettes and smoking?

(still grinning) Well, that depends. Some people will use it strictly to quit smoking and they will save money. Me, hardly. I spend more, but because I'm having fun and I think I'll keep this up for a while. And, I bought four of the one battery kits from this company, and I hand them out as loaners at work. I've already had another person there quit smoking because of it. I don't care how much it costs me, really, if it means even one more person stops smoking. I feel good. I want to stay feeling good, and I want to help some others, too. (I hand him another SI card, and the card of my favorite liquid guys) If you know someone who smokes, pass the information on to them. I don't profit from this, I just want people to feel what I'm feeling - good.

He shakes my hand again.

Great! The MA will be back to get the blood draw, we'll have your results Monday. Enjoy the rest of the day!

So... a month ago, no one was interested in knowing about my ecigs or how I quit smoking, they just knew I had quit smoking.

Today, more conversation was spent on my ecigs and experiences rather than on my (I think) greatly improved stats and health, lol. And maybe... there will be a few less smokers in the land than there are now, if my doctor looks into it more and decides to endorse the idea of ecigs. I hope he will. And, I hope the MA gives the SI card to her sister, or at least gets her a starter kit.

That wasn't all the conversation, there were other bits and pieces, but that was the gist of most of it.

I'm still grinning.

But now, I'm hungry. I had to fast for today's blood work. Thank heavens for butterscotch eLiquid last night. Hm, I curious what my blood will have to say.

Good morning, Imagine!

I expect to get some kind of bill from the blood work, but it was a very satisfying visit. I had about three SI cards with me at the time. I kind of wish I'd kept more in my purse than with the loaners packs. If I had, I would have given the stack to my doctor if it would have meant he would consider endorsing ecigs and would have passed the cards out to his patients that smoke. Seeing the card on the counter as I left made me feel pretty good, it was prominent. I hope lots of people ask about it.

kia2 - wtg! The Doctor should have received a bill from You ;-)

You got that right lol. My Dr blesses them as well and I've got C.O.P.D.. Some Dr.s seem skeptical but when a patient's health starts improving as a result of switching when all else has failed to stop their smoking, they can't ignore that. I think that speaks better than the FDA propaganda as well as the Lung Assn. and Cancer Society misconceptons.
Congratulationso on your good report kia and your efforts to help others.

When I told my doctor I had switched to e-cigs he knew exactly what they were and was very glad I made the switch. The FDA needs to start paying attention to doctors instead of lobbyists.

Same here -- with both my Family Physician and my CFS specialist. They were/are both thrilled!

Great story!!!
To date - 2 doctors and a dentist approved of my vaping over smoking one doctor is my GP and the other is a pulmonary specialist. I have a bit of a gum problem and I asked my dentist if it could be from vaping. I got an absolute NO -keep vaping and have your hygiene visits more often. I see vaping as a win win!
