What's the best resistance atty off a 5volt box mod ?

DSE 901 or a 510 cartomizer from Nhaler.

5v/3.4ohm *5v = 7.35W

Can I use a standard 510 Atty without burning it out?

You can, but it runs hot. You could try short draws keeping the atty soaked. Too long a draw can burn it out, so you have to pay more attention on higher voltages than the lower ones.

5v/2.1ohms *5v = 11.9W

Sweetspot = 6-8W for safe vaping with flavor

A couple other examples:

  • HV 510 atomizer (4.5 ohms) = 5 X 5 / 4.5 = 5.5 watts*

  • Standard 801 atomizer (3.5 ohms) = 5 X 5 / 3.5 = 7.1 watts

* That 5.5 watts may be a bit low, however it is identical to one of today's most popular configurations: a standard 510 atomizer (2.1 ohms) on a 3.4V eGO = 3.4 X 3.4 / 2.1 = 5.5 watts. NOTE: Some HV 510 attys are 5.2 ohms; that might be too low (4.8 watts). It's better on a 6V mod = 6.9 watts.
