Well this vaping malarky is costing way more than I thought. Having spent over £100 on hardware, eliquid in the uk is expensive. I usually buy from my local vape shop, and 10ml of decent liquid is £5 ($7-8), and I get through 3-4 a week!. Now the only uk vendor I can find selling DIY stuff is The Alchemists Cupboard, and they do a what looks like a decent starter kit. DIY Mixing Kit Doe's this look ok? Easy enough to use? Seems to work out at about £1.20 a 10ml bottle @ 18mg.
TIA
Tom

Since I am from the US I get confused when talking about numbers with other countries lol.... I have heard DIY is cheaper because you can make more for less. I am not sure who here will ship to other countries but make sure you get a good juice calculator.. Go to the website to get a lot of good DIY links diy

I don't understand what's in the kit that you can't get at a pharmacy, health food store and needle exchange dirt cheap, excepting the nic of course...

Nothing. It's just laziness on my part and making sure I have everything I need to get started. I envisage future purchases to as and when I need them and in much larger quantities. Also I may be crap at blending and then not too much money is lost.

The kit looks ok, but not thrilled about kits. It's missing some flasks to mix it in, some glass rods to stir it with. When I went DIY I bought,

!) 100 ml flask for small batches
2) 250 ml flask for larger batches
3) 25 ml syringe
4) 10 ml syringe
5) 5 ml syringe
6) 1 ml syringe For test batches
7) 2 glass stirring rods
8) full size selection of blunt nose syringe needles. Actually use these more for wrapping coils than mixing. lol.

Then of course Nic base, recommend getting it in PG instead of VG. PG being thinner and easier to draw and measure.
VG, PG, and a bunch of extracts.

You can add more lab ware as you go along, I bought a 50 ml graduated cylinder, and then a 500 ml beaker for mixing large batches of base.
I bought the Erlenmeyer Flask, because I like the funnel shape and figured they would be great for swirling the juice to help with the mixing. Then I got the large griffin beaker for large base batches.

Everything in the list I find is essential for my mixing needs. My add-ons I could do without but come in handy when I need them. Mixing is very rewarding, and there is comfort in knowing that I have enough nic base, VG and PG to last me for over a year. Have a bunch of extracts too, but will probably have to buy some more before 2015.

So yes, if you are interested in DIY juice, definitely go for it. I figure that my cost for 50 ml of juice is less than $4 to make, including lab ware, and that was with my first purchase. Since then the price has dropped some more, since I bought much larger quantities and had free shipping to boot.

I also began DIY 1 month after starting to vape and never looked back- although it took 3 weeks to figure out some decent recipes it was prolly the best decision I ever made in relation to vaping.
If it goes well you can save even more $$ by buying PG and VG at the pharmacy and larger quantity 250 ml Nic juice. I would also advise buying PG base as it is much easier to work with and stores in the freezer quite well. Eventually a good idea also to purchase glass bottles.
Overall a good starter kit for a fair price IMO.

I just thought I could measure it with a syringe into a dropper bottle and then shake the hell out of it. Just to get started, do I really need a load of lab gear?

That's all I do but I combine nic + PG and shake well. I then add the VG and shake again. Slightly warming the PG and VG under tap water helps with mixing.
