50mw or the 100mw laser atty...I have been thinking.

OK..so I think I may have come up with something here. The green pointer lasers used by astronamers can come in different strengths and are pretty cheep. The little green laser diode and voltage control board is very small can easily fit into say an e-cig just a little bigger in diameter than a 510. I have seen an un-modded(or as the tinkers call it a potted) green laser pointers that pop ballons and can start a match from across a room. The heat generated by one of these small lasers can cut through plastic as close range. So it is generating a lot of heat.

At close, close range the temp is hot enough to burn wood. So here is the ideal. Instead of using a normal heat coil like you find in most atty's, why not use say a 100mw green diode laser to heat the liquid and turn it into a vapor. The diode itself would never come in contact with the fluid. The laser would be like .250 to .300 from a newly designed wicking unit that contains the e-liquid thus producing the vapor.

Do you think this would work?

But doesn't a laser operate differently than a normal electrical atty. It takes a lot more power to make that metal coil hot than it does for that green laser. Well I went ahead and ordered one. It'll be here next week. If it works I'll let you know...it it doesn't then it was just another experiment at making a better PV. :)

I actually build high power lasers from dvds burner diodes. So let me know ho and if this works out for you, from my experience it will not work out.

Generally these lasers are burning from close range, not from accross rooms. So thats a plus. The laser beam has to be focused down to a pinpoint in order for it to burn. And most of the time unless you have a pretty powerful laser you can only pop ballons of darker color because dark colors absorb more light. Even match heads need tob e colored black in order to ignite. The lasers are not really grenerating heat, it is just focusing an insane amount of light on one spot for a bit which creates heat but I am still not sure this would work.

I built a blu ray laser, ordered the driver circuit prebuilt and all preassembled from laserpointerforums dot com and did not need to color anything black to make it burn.

An7yway, I have a tutorial online showing you how to build a laser entireley from scratch, its a little dated but may help you along your way.

Ok I cant post links, pm for the link to my tutorial...

Good luck.

OK finished my 100mw green laser diode atty mod. It works, but you have to hold the button down for like 20 seconds before it starts to produce good vape. I made a new kind of wick and delivery system that would wick the liquid to the part where the focused laser would vap the liquid. Plus the focal point had to be black so the laser light would be absorbed enough to make it heat up. I used a piece of black anodized aluminum. The problem is the vapor itself tends to weaken the strength of the laser because it impedes the laser light. So I tried to move the laser closer and closer and finally found the optimum distance of .05 inches. This worked but like I said you have to hold the button down for like 20 seconds to get good results.

Having to hold the button down for such a length of time drained the battery to fast. ::sigh::

I really think this first experiment worked, but the strength of the laser is not enough to to overcome the vapor that it produces before you draw it out. Plus as I said it drained the battery to fast. :(

On to the next experiment.
