Is this an epidemic or is it just my bad luck? Of my last six atomizers, only two have been usable. The four bad ones had such a horrible metallic taste that I could not use them at all. I did all the usual stuff: blew out all the primer fluid, put a couple drops of e-liquid on the bridge, did some non-inhaling starter puffs to test the taste. And normally, that's all it takes to get an atty going. Maybe the icky taste will rear its head now and then over the first couple hours of use, but a drop or two of juice will solve it.

With these bad ones, however, I just haven't been able to shake the metallic taste no matter what I do. And this metallic taste is so bad that it seems more like toxic fumes than just unpleasantness from an unseasoned atty. I've noticed these atties are super-saturated with primer fluid — way more than past atties I've had. So I'm wondering if that stuff has permeated the atomizer so much that it's got a permanent industrial taste to it.

Has anyone else been running into this problem? If so, have you managed to solve it? Here's what I've tried:

- Blowing out the primer fluid until no more comes out.
- Flooding it with e-liquid, then blowing it out.
- Dripping a few drops on the bridge.
- Puffing without inhaling then repeating all those steps.
- Dry burning, then adding some drops to the bridge.
- Using an over-filled cart to make sure the bridge stayed extra-moist.

After a couple hours of going through all that, the atomizer(s) still defaulted to horrible metallic taste.

Please help!

I have never had this problem but I have heard that some people use vodka to clean their attys or they boil them. I am not sure for how long though.

Just found this, it might help

1 - flush your atty under tap hot water for about 30 seconds or so (you don't need to boil it or make baths with weird stuff for ages, just flush it with hot water for 30 seconds)

2 - blow with your mouth through boths ends (big hole/little hole) of the atty for few seconds to just let it dry a little.

3 - connect your atty to your PV (a regular 3.7v device or ecig) without the cart or cart filler (!!) and perform a 12 seconds (cut-off) dry burn (press the button till cut-off while gently blowing through the mouthpiece -801- or empty cart -510/901- be sure you're blowing -not draggin inside-
you will see a little vapor coming out (it's vaporized water).
If you do not blow while dry burning the coil may get TOO HOT and you may damage it.

4 - do this dry burn 4 times in a row. After that your atty will be perfectly dry and ready to get new juice again.

5 - drip between 5 to 8 drops of liquid into the atty (801), or 2 to 5 (510).
wait a least 2 seconds between any drop, the mesh needs to absorb each drop before adding another one.
Now start vaping, if it doesn't produce much vapor add other drops till it start producing good vapor.
Now the bad taste will be gone.

Well, this method didn't really work. I got a few minutes of decent tasting vapor, but now I'm already getting a hint of the metallic ickiness coming back (it's only been about 10 minutes since I did the flush/burn thing. This is a bummer because I have no good atties now! *gulp* I think I'm going to be digging deep into my stash of gunked-up used atties to see what I can revive until I can get more in here.

Thanks for the help anyway. It was worth a shot :)

I have the same problem, however I think I know the cause.

After trying out 6v on a SB in a regular 510 atty, things were going well...
however: even though I was keeping the atty nice and wet I started getting a really nasty metallic taste. After going nuts trying to clean it I found a lot of info on here about bad or burnt atties.

I decided to completely mutilate the burnt 510 atty to figure out wtf was going on, the atty worked fine for 3 weeks before It got nasty. The coil itself was fine, however there was a chunk of that fiberglass stuff wrapped in the coil. It wasn't around the bridge like it should of been(atleast of what I have seen of a 510 atty), it was directly in the coil - completely black and charred black bits were underneath the coil.

Is this fiberglass supposed to be in/on the coil? (therefore What I did wrong was burn it?) or was this somehow stuffed down to the coil and smoked?

... secondly.... is burning fiberglass toxic?

Attys come with that wicking threads that I guess help wick juice from the bridge to the coil. Once that wicking gets burnt, I can never get an atty to wick / taste good. I think I have ruined a few attys attempting to do a dry burn, and cooking the wicking threads. The atty I am using now seems to be working well, but I have kept it wet, and I am trying to keep the cartridge full, and not waiting till I can taste it is low. The tolerance and standards between different manufacturers of attys is frustrating. I seem to have to modify my setup for every type atty / cartridge.
