How should I go about maintaining my atty? Ive had my 510 for almost a week. It was good for the first few days, I was careful to blow out excess liquid each time I refilled a cart. It seems like vapor production is dropping off now though, and it is starting to have a slightly foul flavor. It has a bit of a bite to it, as opposed to being smooth like it was when I first got it.

Also, I'm trying to decide what sort of filler material I should use to replace the stock material the carts came with. Any suggestions?

the foul atty problem is why i eventually gave up on the 510. (my husband still loves it)
soaking it in crest pro-health does seem to be the best solution.-although i did have good results with mint listerine as well.

soak for 15 minutes or so-rinse and blow a few times-then let it dry.
I had good luck adding a drop or two of liquid directly on the mesh prior to using the monster again after cleaning. (otherwise it tasted nasty again)--but try that at your own risk-as I do not know if that is a recommended practice or not.

as far as filler goes..the easiest is polyfill (walmart) --many tutorials to look at..(you will need less that you think you do)

Many like Fluval-but it tastes a bit "off" to me.
Good Luck

Ive tried dripping when I first got it but it doesn't seem to do much but flood it. Ive had much better luck topping off carts. It seems like the PG liquid I have isn't very good for dripping, it just runs right off the bridge of the atty. The flavor does improve dramatically when I drip or top off. But the tinny flavor quickly returns, and seems to be coming back quicker as time goes on.

most likely needs cleaning. my atty's would do the same thing every few days. I often wondered what must get caked up away from view. -I also tend to draw much harder -and more frequently than my husband. Maybe that is why the 510 works out better for him.

A tinny flavor can happen from the atty not wicking fast enough...give the atty a bit longer to wick between pulls???

ok the liquid is not to thin.. it is suppose to run down off the bridge.. and soak into the mesh..

clean the atty.. safest that will wipe out old flavor is to get high proof grain alcohol.. soak for 5-10 mins then run hot water through the atty.. after that dip the atty in high proof alcohol and let it drip out 3 times.. then let dry.. if you are in a hurry take a blow dryer to it..

at own risk..
another method if the atty is to the point that you are thinking it is trash.. do dry burns on the atty holding the button for around 10 seconds while blowing into it with no cart on.. and letting cool.. repeating this many times until the coil glows within 2 seconds.. after that quick soak in alcohol 5 mins.. rinse with hot water.. then dip a few times in alcohol and let dry
.. this is how i do mine and have attys that are 4 months old and work great

for filler.. look at the blue foam mod.. it has worked best for me

I found the filler-wick couldnt keep up with me (like you pan I draw hard and frequently) - so I went to bare empty carts and direct dripping. Just touch the bottle tip to the bridge a couple times if the bottle has a wide hole, dont squeeze, let gravity do it. If I squeeze the bottle (only do that if its a rigid type bottle that would take too long for gravity to get a drop out) then it usually floods.
I flood now n then, have to blow out a lot, but its still better than using any filler I've found so far. Not had a bad taste yet either. Don't know if the 2 are conencted or just lucky.

I get my attys from Cignot too. To clean, I soak overnight in Everclear ( Grain Alcohol) Blow out. Rince in hot water and blow out (from battery side) 2 or 3 times. Let dry for 24 hours or more. Prime with my juice of choice and injoy my joy 510. But when all else fails I clean with this method. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tips-tricks/69834-my-atty-resurrection-method.html Be carefull, you can burn out the atty this way. But that is why I use Cignot. 3 for $25.00 and the fastent shipping I've ever got from any supplyer:D

broke down and switched it out for a fresh atty. I think a lot of my problem is the filler not wicking well, and taking frequent drags. I hadn't really been cleaning the filler either, just topping off, so i think I was retaining some bad tasting liquid. I plan on expanding my horizons beyond tobacco flavors for the next order, hopefully that helps as well.

thanks for the replies

I've got everything from CIGNOT.com.

So far I've had no trouble out of my atomizers. I destroyed half a dozen one night when I first started vaping by washing them out like everybody said. 4 1/2 months later I only maintenance them when they stop working.

Or in the case I started using methal (just a couple drops per 10ml--man, I tell you, it sure gave all my atties a metalic taste--so I washed them.

I like the blue foam too, if you need specifics here is the brand to look for at the fish area of any local pet store or petsmart/petco. They come in 3 pack, and they are huge pieces of blue foam that should last you a long long time, just rinse well with warm water before use, and cut small sections slightly larger than your cart, and insert into cart, drip till it's full, you may have to adjust foam to help liquid soak in the first time. They seem to hold up a long time and clean up easily. I have had no problems with it wicking or changing the flavor of my liquids. Great stuff, here is what to get:

Marineland brand
Bonded Foam Sleeve
style: U

so you can see the package:
Marineland Rite-Size U Bonded Foam Sleeve Aquarium Filter Sleeves

I have also found that a little alcohol soak and a quick warm tap rinse, then cool blow dry works great until the coil gets so gunked up that it won't wash clean any more, then I use the mod where you pull the mesh/bridge out to expose the coils, and I use a small pin to help carefully scrape the build up off the coil, but you have to have a light touch so you don't wreck the coil. Seems to be working so far, and better than just trashing them once they won't vape. I also found that you have to be careful removing the bridge, push against the ceramic area with a tooth pick then pull up on the bridge with tweezers or tiny needle nose pliers. That way you don't pull the inner workings out with the bridge. Good luck to ya.
