For those of you using 901 carts on your 510, I did this a while back but instead of using a pin, I drilled a small hole. Same concept, different approach. It does work, but I then ended up switching to the blue foam (and now the screens). The everlasting quest for the perfect cart mod. LOL :)

Anyway, the pics show where to put the hole on a 901 cart (for you more "visual" people out there)....

Just last night i bought up a bag of Marineland Bonded Foam Sleeve "Rite Size U. Says it fits all H.O.T. Magnum canister filters. It cost me $10.00 and was a 3 pack.

Tried it last night "folded" first in the vent mod. No good.. Too much air ofcourse and flooded the atty. Tried it again in a new cart. It has a wierd taste to it. I washed the piece i made first. Ran it under hot water and even used from mild hand soap. Rised good under cold water and padded dry.

I cant get by the taste. All i can figure is that the material is releasing something in the juice... every cart filler material i've used adds some taste to the juice in my experiance. This one freaks me out as this stuff is not natural as it is.

I also had to "Top off" the cart as usuall, so it did not last all day or even more then 1-2 vape sessions as others have reported with it.

I've tried everything.. the PTB "Shredded" was close but too much air killed the flavor plus all the juice was not used.

I posted this awhile back with this method the juice trap still works and you wont get juice on your hand hope it works out for ya.

Nice.. Figured with such an logical mod that someone must of tried it before.

Puzzled.. Just looking at it, it looks like there would be a prob with the first filling with the cart emtpy.. The juice would just run right out the bottom. Unless your filling the cart while the poly is in it. Where does the air come in from? All i could think of is from the air that comes in from the atty holes, so it would travel down the exhaust port and some would go back up the cart while the other air goes out into your mouth.

Yeah, i also noticed that you go through juice alot faster using the vent mod. :(

I'm starting to think it would be best to have a tiny cart area and have just enough room for a little bit of filler. That way you could just add 2-3 drops and vape. When it runs out then your done vaping. Then just keep adding drops each time you vape. No waste and all is used plus the bonus is that you know when your done and dont over vape.

I'd just start dripping with no cart filler but then i'd be going through attys every week. heh.

Eclypse, Thanks for this mod! I have tried everything with carts PTB, brass screens, poly, fluval, and finally gave up and just drip. But when I go out it's nice to use carts. I really love my 401 when out and about but the cartridges are terrible! I've been using one pin hole on my 401's, 901's and 510's for a week now and this is great!!!! It really does work. I can get a TON of juice in that stinking tiny little 401 cart and use it ALL up! Huge difference if I accidently grab one I haven't put the hole in yet. Oh and I have settled on the fluval with the pin hole. Working great. Thanks!

Thanks aschimdy! Glad you like it.

I've came to notice something just today. For the past week i've tried some other juice that my Dad gave me and really really liked it. Some tobacco flavor from www.cloud9smoking.com. Anyways, ever since using it i noticed that there was alot of juice still left in the poly. Its a darker brown liquid so it was easy to see.

So i stopped using the poly and tried the blue foam.. that was'nt any good. Then again tried the shredded lipton pyramid tea bags and that was working great along with the single small hole vent mod. Now that the new bottle ran out i had to go back to the TW Marlboro stuff i was using prior.

I used the tea bag last night and noticed it flooding the atty too much. Then this morning i went back and tried the poly again and my idea was right.

The poly works best with thin juice. Dont use thick juice with it as it will get stuck down in the poly and cant run down to the atty bridge.

So for me its clear.. poly works fine with thin juice using my vent mod. Thick juice use something else like the tea bag.

Now i've got a prob as i have another 5 bottles of 30ml 24mg TW marl and 5 of the same no nic. :) hehe. Damn.

I tried this as well and it seems to work well but to be honest, after mastering the double folded shredded LPB mod I am getting extreme vapor, long cart life on a full fill and great pull. Im getting a much cleaner taste and with no burnt taste at all and it seems to work flawlessly so far.

Now i will try the same dfslpb mod with the 2 holes and report on how that went. Something about the poly that i dont like is that it has no spring like the lbp mod has so you dont get full contact with the atty with poly, but with the double fold lbp method all the juice seems to go to the top for me and there is a little spring action by shredding the bottom of the lbp.

Yep, thats my only beef with the poly as well. it seems to shrink in the cart. Working on that too hehe. I'm thinking it all has to do with the atty pushing it down since we cut the poly at the top of the cart. If you hold the cart and atty side by side where its connected, you'll see how deep the atty goes into the poly. I'm gona try cutting the poly down to where it just touches and see if that fixes it.. prob not but wirth a try.

Also thinking that the fluval might be the way to go as its stiffer and may hold its shape better. I still have not tried the fluval though.

Also i dont think you need the 2 holes.. just the one as i believe all this vent mod is doing is bleeding the air out of the cart. Which you want as air pockets will hold the juice and it wont wick.

One tiny whole is all thats needed.

them0nk.

I dont see why it would'nt work on a 801 cart.. I've never had one so i'm not sure how it works but as long as you can put a hole down at the bottom side of the filler compartment it should work.

Please report back if you try it on the 801.

I tried this with the original polyfill that comes in my 510 carts. KINDA worked, but I'm way too fed up with the leakage that I just can't stand it any more. There's got to be a reason why the cart is sealed up the way it is.

The way I see it is this. The problem is with the airflow of the carts. We inhale, which pulls air in, over the heated atomizer, through vents, finally landing in the mouth. The juice then needs to wick back over the atomizer to wet it again.

Imagine instead this. The inhale draws the air through the juiced fiber, OVER (not -through-) the atomizer, into the vents, and to the mouth. The action of inhaling ensures that the atomizer is always wet, and because it's not being drawn THROUGH the atomizer, it shouldn't get flooded. The tricky thing would be insuring that unevaporated juice is not sucked in through the vents. Now I'm no engineer, but there's got to be a better way.

This one looks alot better than the mod with the hole in the bottom directly in line with the two holes which lead to your mouth.

You can offset the hole so it dosen't line up, I haven't any juice in mouth problems in almost 7 months of vapin with it. The main reason I like the hole in the middle is over time the hole gets clogged and I have to poke a straight pin into the hole to clear it.

Which is easier than taking the whole cart apart to clean the hole out. Hope this helps hehe. Glad you guys use the vent hole mod, now when I get new carts I mod them all hehe. I'm all for whatever works for ya hehe, if you have to wire it up with twizzlers and install a flux capacitor on it, go for it I say lol.

I just gave this mod a shot on my protege, and love it; although I may be doing it a bit different. I have one hole in the side of the cart, but if I do not cover the hole with my lip it seems to be to "airy" so I cut the juice trap off so that I did not have to stick the entire cart in my mouth. At first I was a little weary about cutting it, but been 2 days now with no juice in my mouth. Whenever it seems the atomizer is getting dry I just take a small hit with the hole uncovered, and its as if I dripped a few drops perfectly on the bridge for another 10-12 hits. The carts seem to be lasting me much longer now though, where as on my drive home from work/school (30-45 min drive) I normally had to pray to catch a red light half way to refill (only time I hope to catch a red light) now it will last me the entire drive home chain vaping.

Only downfall (which may actually be a plus as well) is when I am refilling if I put one to many drops it'll leak out of the small hole on the side, but like I said this may be a plus seeing as I have not flooded my atomizer once since doing this. I'm getting about 10-12 drops before the leak though.

I have found that changing my poly fill twice a day instead of every other day makes this mod work better. I switched to Nhales HV Pralines and Cream juice (really dark) this morning with new poly fill so once I sense a vapor/flavor reduction I will pull the poly fill out to see how much is left inside of the cart.

Ok so I just changed my poly fill (chain vaped since about 7:30am CST till now) -- It had some juice still on it but not really enough to panic over honestly, one drop maybe less. I did change the poly fill once the flavor/vapor reduced though I'm sure I could have gotten that last bit out if I would have took one or two more draws though.

So far this has become my "holy grail" of cartridges mods. I put a little more poly fill than normal this go round, and so far it seems to be better. I fit about 16-17 drops, plus it created a harder draw (which I prefer).

P.S. - Just a tip: I've found that if I start my drag with the hole uncovered for a second or two then cover it for the last three or four seconds the throat hit/flavor/vapor are outstanding. Its taking some time to get into the habit of doing but when I think about it... WOW!

Seems i've noticed something else which dawned on me the other day. Using the mod helps the poly hold its shape. Normally the poly-fil will squish over a short period of time and not make good contact with the bridge anymore. You'll notice when you pull the poly out that its much shorter. Well everytime i pull my poly out (which now is every other day cause i'm lazy) its at full length!

Seems to be changing the pressure in the cart as air is able to flow in and out easier its not putting pressure on the filler. Thats a good thing! :)

Also is seriously easy to fill and refill carts with the hole. I actually just leave the hole uncovered now and just add drops to the top of the poly and watch the drops just soak right in and down fast threw the filler as theres no air traped in the cart. I know when its toped off when i start to see some liquid come threw the hole.

T.S. Interesting stuff.. I too recetnly got a Protege! Love it.

You may want to try making a smaller hole.. but if its working good for you dont change anything.

I like the idea of changing the poly out a couple times a day as well. Easy and cheap enough to do so why not keep the cig working its best!

Thats what i like about the poly-fil.. cheap and simple.

I've been vaping differently for the past couple of days. The way i've been doing it is by also not taking in too much air which leads to thining out the flavor and throat hit.

Ever put your toung near the whole on the mouth piece? Try it. You'll notice that theres a small suction going on when you first hit the button. When the atty fires up its drawin in air threw every hole it can all by its self. So why even bother sucking?

What i do is just put my mouth over the mouth piece and then hit the button.. this forces the atty to draw in air from batt/atty connection holes and ofcourse the hold around the cart. Then i wait about a sec or 2 for the atty to heat up good and start burning the juice. Then i do the normal mouth hit but draw in very minimal air as possable.I do that for about 3 more sec. So in total about a 5 sec hit and you'll be enjoying the full flavor of the juice and get a real nice throat hit at the same time. :)

I gota try that Nhales HV Pralines and Cream juice. I seriously love Pralines and Cream ice cream. hehe.

I'm stuck with about 10 bottles of TW marlboro 24ML 30ML bottles... I've cut it down to half with no nic of the same. Thought it was good till my father handed me a bottle of tobacoo flavor from www.cloud9smoking.com . Damn is that some awesome flavor! Bottle ran dry about a week ago :( Not bad at $20 for a 30ML bottle though, cheaper around $16 each if you buy a 6 pack.

Gota come into some money so i can grab me a 6 pack of that and some trial bottles of that P&C and others.
