I'm sure this has probably been asked before, but searching the forum for connector turns up thousands of matches. Lol.

I am going to be building my first mod soon and the only think I really have questions about is the 510 connector. I have seen posts describing about removing the center pin etc. and wiring it, etc. I am going to start with a complete mechanical mod so I shouldn't need any wiring if I understand correctly. Based on what I have been able to read so far, I assume that the center pin of the 510 is the positive and the outside of the connector is the ground. Is that correct? If this is correct, then the center pin ONLY needs to make contact with the battery to fire?

Can you buy 510 connectors with adjustable pins or a 510 connector that does not need to be modified for this? I want this mod to be as easy as possible for my first one. I also plan on using a bottom type switch if I can find something that will work at my local hardware store.

jes the 510 conectors are the big problems in my mods to . the quality is terrible . if you find a better one let us know.
the next one I will try is to use a is an adaptor ....510 to ego...modified . seems better quality.
jes the center pin is the positive but your coil is just a resistor and dosnt care if reversed . but stick with the standard.
also the switch dosnt care which side positive or negative from the battery you interrupt ..with a bottom switch it might be easier to interrupt the negative. so ...negative from battery to one side of switch other side of switch to negative atty.
positive battery to positive atty. have funn

I've used several 510 methods from pressing in an 801 to 510 adapter (very meaty connector) on an aluminum box mod to putting an eGo to 510 adapter on a plastic box mod with the shell of a 510 connector on the back as a lock nut to several 'Stove Soldered Connectors' on metal mods that would take solder.
In the picture you will see an eGo to 510 adapter soldered to brass, a 510 connector soldered, an eGo nose piece cut down and soldered in a copper mod, a 510 connector done the same way.
Over on the right side of the pic is a eGo nose cut down ready for soldering and an eGo to 510 adapter with the 510 threads cut down to expose the center pin. The center pin and insulators would be removed, the connector stove soldered into the copper cap, the pin and insulators replaced and a layer of epoxy poured into the cap to insulate everything except the center pin.
The center pin shown is often called 'adjustable' but I feel it should be tightened down to hold it stable and make better electrical contact between the two pieces. To 'lengthen' the center pin I shave a few thousandths off the outer shell to 'shorten' the shell. Most of the connectors in the photo have been shaved.

Now, what is this 'stove soldering'?

Don't even think of using something like hot glue to hold a connector in.
Here's one soldered eGo connector, and two lock nut installations that have served me well.
Brass, Plastic, and Aluminum Mods.

rocketman that one on the right is awesome. I wanna build something in that vein

I haven't wired a connector on my pipe mod yet, mainly because I can't figure out exactly where to attach wires from battery to the 510/ego connectors I have. I've been hunting for pictures, because watching videos is really hard for me to absorb the info.

hi rocketman
that is what I will try ..I have a small mini torch from harbor freight which works very nice ...using a piece of circuit board to solder it to ,to use in the top of the mod. thanks for the pictures !
what

are you using for the pix ? cloud based service ?how do you link them to ecf ? one more qwestion is to many but where do you buy them ...the conectors
I mean ...rolf

He's using Photobucket, it's a free image hosting site.

The connectors you can get many places, Madvapes (when they're in stock) and Goodprophets (a good deal if you buy 10+) to name a couple. Googling "510 battery connectors" will give you a more comprehensive list.

I have a gas stove and use the "Stove" method for larger soldering jobs. Works so well, I'm actually able to form copper left on the stove too long :p

You say you can form the copper? As in reshaping and such? If so, how malleable is it using this method?
