So I started out using my 510 kit this week. I ordered auto batteries and actually like them just fine. But I wanted to give a manual battery a try as well, so I ordered one. I took the atty and cartrdige off of my auto battery and screwed on the manual one. After two or three drags using the manual battery, the atty got hot - much more so than it ever has with the auto batteries.

I am now finding that this atty is getting noticeably warmer than it used to when screwed into one of the manual batteries as well, and the vapor production has declined a bit. So....

First - did I fry my atty?

Second - is it normal for the atty to heat up more when using a manual battery? I hit the button for a sec and then held it doing a drag of about 3-4 secs.

mine get hot too on my eGo,
I think it is normal.

as for the vapor I would make sure you have you cart full of liquid
I have noticed mine tend to "break in" and after a day or two plus a cleaning they get better.
I have just been rinsing mine in really hot water and drying them out by blowing and then doing the dry burn thing
if you search there are lots of cleaning posts

It is normal, and why MANY users prefer manual batteries.

Using the MANUAL brings full voltage to the atty all at once, PLUS you are heating it up for longer amounts of time, by pushing the button, taking a drag, then releasing it. With an automatic, the atty heats up some time during the process, but not all the way through it.

Being hot won't hurt a 510 atty - mine get volcanic at times, so much so that I have to watch where I put them down (skin is NOT a good choice lol), but it shouldn't alter vapor production to any degree.
It may just be that particular atty has a short life span and is starting to die, or it might just need a good blow out :)
