Thank you all for your insight! I've been reading this forum for a bit as I research whether this is a "step in the right direction" away from smoking.

I only smoke 10 or so cigarettes per day. I'm looking for a e-cig to mimic the real thing, to give that good throat and lung hit, nicotine and oral fixation.

My question is, I've been looking very seriously at the 510, as I hear it is a pretty standard starter. I understand the difference between the 510 and 510 Mega, but just wondered which you would suggest. I understand the longer battery life is a bonus, but is it a game-changer for ordering a first.

I've been looking at ordering from Good Prophets. Looks like it is the same price either way. Wondering also if the cartridges/atomizers/e-liquid would be the same price either way??

Thanks so much for any advice you can give! I'd like to order soon!

I'd go for the mega myself. Battery life really is a deal-breaker when you have a 180mAh that only lasts 2 hours. The mega will almost double that. The other option is to get the regular 510 and a PCC which will charge a spare battery for you while you're on the go. They also make PCC's for the mega, but considering how long the mega is, the PCC is pretty big.
If you want to jump to 6 hours of battery life without a PCC, get the ego kit instead. It's up to you, but you'll really like the extra hour or so you get out of the mega without having to swap batteries or park it at a plug or computer to recharge every couple hours.

I have both standard and mega 510 batts and the regular ones are nice because of size, the megas are nice because they last so much longer. I used to carry several of the regular ones and they would get me through the day at work. I also have a 5 slot charger so it was no big deal to charge them all up when I got home and switch to the longer megas while at home.
Even though I now have eGo's and T-atty/tanks for convenience, I still love the 510 attys/mega attys for their flavor, TH, and if you don't mind fiddling with all the cart re-filling, they are tops.

Wow! Thanks all! Quick responses!

Couple follow-up questions. First to Secti0n31, what is the comparison between eGo and 510? I've been reading and watching (Youtube) a lot of comments that the 510 doesn't really disappoint in any category (maybe lacks a little in battery, but that's the reason I asked about the Mega). Is the eGo good for vapor, TH, etc, etc, etc...

Second Q for SuZamme, you wrote: "if you don't mind fiddling with all the cart re-filling," what do you mean by this? is there something about dripping more liquid in the cart that I should be considering?

Thanks again for the quick responses!!

In my opinion eGo and 510 perform the same way as in vapor, th and the taste if you use the same standard 510 atomizer. That's because they both are 510 threading, they can use the same atomizer. But the battery life on an eGo is alot better. eGo batteries range from 650 mah - 1000 mah. The standard eGo kit comes w/ the 650mah batteries. Some places their an option to get the 1000mah batteries for the starter kit as well for more money. The other difference is the size. standard 510 is like a size of a ciggy, and eGo size of a cigar. But if you use eGo batteries you can use low resistance atomizer, whereas if you use the standard 510 you can't.

As for the cartridge. A standard 510 or regular eGo kit comes is a 3 piece set up. 3 piece set up = cart + atomizer + battery. Alot of ppl do not like to use carts because they hold very little juice so therefore you will have to top off very often. You can purchase cartomizer. Cartomizer = cartridge + atomizer in one piece. Cartomizer hold more juice, they take more time to fill then a cartridge, but they hold more juice which will make up the time in the long run. Cartomizer are consider disposable, but they can be refilled a few times before trashing them.

As for the eGo tank atty that suzamme mention, they are less fiddling. Very easy to fill, you can also see the juice lvl. But what's bad about it is there been alot of complaints about :
Leaking
dry hits
flavor not consistant

You can purchase a standard eGo starter kit w/ the 510 atomizer. In the future you can purchase other eGo atomizer to try. So if you want to try the eGo tank later on. You can just purchase the atomizer to try on your batteries. Unless you want to buy the eGo tank kit now.

If you are deciding on eGo instead of the standard 510. You can also consider Riva 510. Riva 510 is a knockoff eGo, they basically the same and perform the same, but for a cheaper price. Riva 510 and eGo parts are interchangable.

I've been vaping about a month and a half. I have the 510 reg, mega and an ego clone. I still like the 510's the best because I still need that cig feel in my hands. the ego clone feels more like a cigar. I'm at home most of the time so changing batteries doesn't bother me at all. the mega 510 is longer than the reg, at first it felt a lot longer, but not so much now. I am perfectly happy with the TH and vapor from my 510s. I also have a pcc, which btw came in unexpectedly handy when our power went out for 8 hours recently!

There are a couple of different Mega 510 things

The mega xl manual batteries are great! But they do make it longer (about 138mm w/ cart and atty, 128mm with Boge carto). They give at least 60% more battery charge life versus the standard 510 batteries. I do not recommend auto batteries because most people end up preferring dripping on the atomizer or using cartomizers and if either of those leaks it would be right where the drag sensor of an auto is and you can kill batteries that way. The manual 510 batteries are totally sealed on the threaded end.

The mega atty and mega carts? Eh. 510 isn't that great at emptying its cart of juice anyway. And you would have to cut your own blue foam stuffing is you use the mega carts (strictlyejuice.com has nice precut blue foam stuffing for standard 510 carts really cheap). I would recommend cartomizers like those nice standard resistance Boge soft-caps over mega atty and mega carts.

If you are thinking of the 510 mega kit, I know I had the mega atties that came with my kit and they are just horrid. I used them for the first month, but after using the standard atties there is no comparison. Even starting with the Mega I got tired of the battery life and went to egos and rivas, but it should be a good kit for a light smoker. If you use cartridges I would recommend the fluval as well, I did the LTB as well and it just didn't work out for me.

dormouse - I think you meant to say 'I do not recommend auto batteries....' even though the rest says that. Just for clarification...

Thanks for the link to the Fluvall cart filler.

I was watching TGWTF and saw his youtube video on the Lipton Pyramid filler. I was thinking about trying that eventually.

Any comments or comparisons of the two??

Patiently (or not-so-patiently) waiting for the new e-cig to arrive!

I never had good success with PTB. I had better success using the straw mod:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tips-tricks/11421-cart-mod-better-refilling.html

... using a shaft from Johnson & Johnson safety swabs for the 'straw' instead of the coffee stirrers which become brittle. And using that with either the oem filler or with a blue foam plug that uses only about 3/8 of an inch of foam for the top of the cartridge.

I didn't care for the plasticy flavor of the LTB and the leaking. I like to have several PV's going at a time and letting the ones with LTB sit for awhile created some leaking for me.

I started with the Joye 510 too, about 6 months ago. The battery is ok if you're a light smoker, but horrible if you smoke a pack or more regularly. That is why I'm switching to the EGO. The "as close to real" experience was very important to me at first, but now am ok to switch to a better digital model, even if it looks nothing like an analog.

I would say I smoked about half a pack of analogs before, and the 510 would never last me through a full day's work. I had a PCC and everything, but eventually that stopped working. I'd rather just have a battery that lasts now.

The Mega 510 didn't interest me because it just looks like a weird analog 100s, which I'm not interested in. Also, I had experiences with the Joye 510 leaking, so the EGO looks appealing with the protective cone.
