My wife and I recently started vaping and in getting started, bought a Screwdriver MKII and a Tornado (TW branded eGo). The SDMKII uses a 901 and the Tornado uses a 510 atty. At first, when we received the kits, we could tell very little difference between the two. However, after 2 weeks, I have noticed that her 901 produces much more vapor and has a harder hit than my 510, using the exact same juice. Our setup is as follows; SDMKII, standard 901 atomizer with a SuperT delrin drip tip. Tornado, with standard 510 atomizer and a SuperT delrin drip tip.

I've done quite a bit of troubleshooting and testing. I've tried several different 510 attys, both new and used. Cleaned my used ones with 100pf vodka. Tried several different kinds of juices, etc... The most pronounced difference is with Tasty Vapor juices. The SDMKII will hit hard and has very full flavor, the Tornado, not so much. It produces very little vapor and a small amount of flavor (comparatively speaking). If I want a decent amount of vapor and decent hit, I have to use Halo's Freedom juice at a 24mg level and that still pales in comparison to a TV 18mg hit on her SDMKII.

What I want to know is if that is normal, can a 901 generally be expected to produce more vapor and have better throat hit? If so, should I get an adaptor and switch my Tornado to using 901 attys? Should I look into a new PV? At this point the Tornado is just not satisfying as a PV. Help!

Regards,
Jacob

I started out with all 510 gear. I now have a mod and have moved away from the 510 atties and use the 901 and sometimes the 801. The vapor is from the juice-IMO. The flavor of the juice comes through more in the 901 and 801. The higher heating ability of the 510 just kills the flavor. I use InnoVapors ULTRApure in full flavor as my main vape and no matter the atty- I get clouds of vapor. Get the adapters-they are worth it!!!!!!

Ah, ok, that helps to make sense of this. I was not aware the the 510 got hotter than the 901. I will have to disagree to a small extent on the juice being the source of the vapor. To an extent you are correct, in terms of the makeup of the juice making a difference (PG vs VG, etc...) However, I did side by side comparisons with the SDMKII (901) and Tornado (510) using the exact same juice (TV 35% VG, PB and Choco). The difference in amount of vapor, flavor and throat hit were significant, with the better being the SDMKII (901).

Also depends on what ohm Attys your using on each unit to maxify the TH and Vapor

On my Tornado I'm using a combination of the ones that came with the kit and a few that I ordered. To be honest, I'm not seeing any difference between the two models at all.

One problem Tonado/ego = 3.2 v your screwdriver = 3.7v switch Attys and see if its the same thing

I was not aware of that. I was under the impression that the Tornado/eGo was a 3.7v device! That makes a lot of sense. So, even with the 901 atomizer on it, I will likely not get the same performance as the SDMKII. Hmmm... Guess a new PV is likely the better route then?

I have both 901 and 510 attys - the 510 gets volcanicly hot, the 901 less so. The 901 works better for my fruit flavors, the 510 for everything else - the 510 likes my 5v PT, the 901 hates it and prefers the 3.7 PT or the 3.1 manual batts (standard batts I know they vape around 3.1 rather than 3.7). Vapor with both is comparable, TH seems the same to me, flavor only varies, imo, with fruits which dont sem to like the very hot atty.
I like both attys, they both have their place :)

Usint a LR on my Ego everyday, it's the only way to go in my honest opinion, I also have an NHaler derlin Dripping tip on the end of the LR, YOU MUST kepp the LR WET, once you go this route you might not look back at any carts anymore, I haven't..!!

The answer to your first question about that 901 on the Tornado/Ego not totaly but not your best vape by any means unless you have an LR Atty OR A LOWER ohm 901 then stock, the LR comes in 510/901/801/ and some others I believe to, try it you will love it

Ok, so I like lots of flavor and based on what I can gather, the 901 is better for flavor (please correct me if I'm wrong), so I think the best route to go would be a LR 901 with an adaptor on my eGo. What is a good place to get the LR attys?

Also, you mention the lower ohm attys? Where can I find these?

I use both the SD with the 901 standard atty, and the E-go battery with the 510 atty, and occasionally the regular 510 batteries, (I admit I'm spoiled by the bigger batts.) After closely comparing the two atty's (standard resistance) I've decided that I favor the 901--a lot. I like the draw much better, it's so much easier than the 510, the taste and volume are just right. The 510's do run a bit hot, and the wicking material gets compacted quickly with it, making it difficult to draw. I don't go the dripping route at all, I find it annoying to have to constantly drip, I'd rather refill my cartridges.

One last thing about cartridges. I find that when topping off my carty's, it only takes two or three drops--if I take out the filler material (wick) with a tiny pliers, rinse it with clean water for a second, then carefully and completely drying it with a paper towel, it is just like brand new for another day or two. It seems the juice compacts the material after a day or so, but doing the above extends it's life and provides better performance.
