Well I have seen variations of the Genesis mod with the CE2, so I decided to replace the wick completely and using a 1/2" X 3" long pice of SS400 I wrapped it long ways around a piece of wire. Once I had that tight I remove the wire and kept wrapping it as tight as I could get it. The final dia was approx .075". Now I just cut 2" of 36 ga Nichrome, J-hooked it, soldered it and it helped to desolder one of the wire to wrap. Before wrapping I heat treated the SS400 quenching it 3 times. The it was approx 6 wraps around and back through the hole in the cup, a quick solder of the neg leg and finished putting it into the tank.

Here are a couple pics. Very clean taste and vapes like a champ!

Dan

Hey Dan,
Is there any metallic taste from the mesh? I can't use a metal DT or an atty because they seem to give everything a metallic tang.

I dont get any metallic taste at all, I heat treated the mesh (made it glow red hot) So there is a oxididation layer on it, that probably helps in minimizing the metalic taste.

So, finally you've made what I hadn't a will to make... you say its taste is good? Is it more like CE2 or more like an atty?

More like a CE2 that does not have the undelying burnt taste, very clean vape. I made the heating coil at 2.7ohms so on my ProVari it ROCKS. Tons of vapor and a good throat hit at 12mg.
Hope this helps.
Dan

Here she is on my ProVari, this thing is a dream!
Notice the bottom washer is flipped upside down with the bevel facing the provari, this gives me an additional 1/16" of clearance and allows a better airflow to the atty.

Did you use any special kind of solder? I would have thought that the temp of the nichrome would melt regular solder. Though I am just learning about all of this. I would love to be able to rebuild my CE2's though.

Nice....I love this Upgrading what you have and making it WAYYYYYYYYYYY better!!!

Hey Scubabatdan isn't this the same stuff
Wire Cloth, SS, 400 x 400 Mesh, 12 x 12 In - Wire Cloth - Wire Cloth - Raw Materials : Grainger Industrial Supply

they have a store a mi from me...if its same I'm in business...whew no more wick taste...

and Silent soldier you hook the wires and use no lead silver solder...its melting point is much higher than the nichrome gets. tight work space though...Get a magnifier (and a monocle) ROFL

Are there any blowup diagrams of these 'MAP' tanks? I don't understand how the atty is separated from the juice.

Is it possible to make these or do you have to rip the guts out of a spent one?

Here is my step by step video on making a map tank:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-tank-mod-youll-see-today-26.html#post2972164

That is an excellent thread, alot of variations on building one.

I am using rosin core silver solder, I J-Hook both the Nichrome and the trace wires so they catch one another,

then crimp them together, then I solder them. If the nicrome were not "wet" it would heat up enough to melt the solder. But since the nichrome stays wet the temp is far below the melting point of the solder.

Hmmmm I had not found a US supplier, so I have been ordering from the UK. But if it is 400 then the tightness of it should be the same. 12x12 piece for 20 bucks? hmmm what is a better deal. a A4 sheet for 17.26 including shipping or a 12x12 piece for 25.00 including shipping? Well from my experiance I ordered 2 sheets from the mesh company and recieved 5 total, not sure if this was a mistake or standard practice. Either way both will work, I will have to order a sheet from them and see if they are the same. Thanks for the link!

I agree you definantly need some jewler glasses or some of the 3.75 cheapy reading glasses for doing this. As I said previously it is easier to de-solder the neg lead, pull it out and then solder the wire onto both leads. Then wrap the nichrome around the SS roll and once tight feed the neg wire back down the hole in the cup and pull the new coil in flush. Then re-solder the neg leg to the atty connector. Much easier and cleaner looking.
Hope all this helps.
Dan

Lovely again Dan. Using a tank gives some extra room, but having flexed this in your own hands, do you think that the roll would fit into the original clearo tubing without kinking? Something tells me it's been tried before, but you've got a different rolling method and it sounds smaller too. Maybe with some slits added to the cup area somehow?

No I do not think there would be room the, the SS would ultimantly kink, that is why I went with the 25mm bottle from madvapes on this. It is pretty much the same rolling method I suppose as everyone elses. I just rolled it around a piece of wire to get the form. Then removed the wire and continued rolling between my fingers until it reduced in dia to the same size as the wire. Very tight wrap. The piece of SS sheet was about 1/2" x 3.5" in length and then I just trim it to fit just before it goes in the bottle. Here are some pics, hope this helps to visualize it.

Here is a step by step after you roll and heat treat the SS...

Here is a pics of the old setup uing the existing wick after 30 days of use... ewwwwwww
iPhone063.jpg

Desolder the neg wire, depending on how long the pos wire is you may be able to remove the cup with out de-soldering it. If not then de-solder it.
iPhone064.jpg

Pull the old wick and coil up and out and cut the old coil off. (And the wonder where the burnt taste comes from)
iPhone065.jpg

Bare back the plastic on the wires and create a J hook on both wires and both ends of the 2" piece of 36ga nichrome wire.
iPhone066.jpg

Connect the nichrome J hook and the wire J hook, crimp them down on each other and solder.
iPhone067.jpg

Now wind the nichrome wire around the SS in the center and re-feed the wire through the cups.
iPhone068.jpg

Re solder the wires to the atty connector assembly.
iPhone069.jpg

And insert it into you tank mod.
iPhone070.jpg

Vape to your hearts content until the process must be re-done!
Thats it!
Hope it helps,
Dan

Quick question - do you wrap all the nichrome around the ss mesh? That seems like a lot of loops.
What does that do for the resistance?

Also - I tend to rinse and dryburn my CE2 every re-fill, is this overkill?
Every 3 or 4 rinses I will burn the whole wick, is this why my wicks start falling
apart after only a few weeks?
