510 XL CE2 + SS400 wick = Awesome

That's one of the things that I felt might be causing my problems, rolling the wick too tight. From what I could see (and my eyes aren't what they used to be) there was no gap in the center. In my first attempt it curved nicely and had no kinks, I suspect because it was rolled so tight it couldn't kink. On subsequent, looser rolls I had kinking problems which I hope to fix with Dan's latest recommendation of leaving the paperclip in place during the bend. I haven't had the opportunity to try that yet, but intend to when I can make it back home.

Here is a method for getting acurate pieces of SS to roll, not sure if anyone else has tried this:
I Taped a piece of SS inside of a piece of card stock

and folded it in half

Then used a paper cutter to measure out the width I wanted

And cut the SS to the desired width

I suppose I could do this with a brand new sheet and just use 2 sheets of paper taped at the edges. It is a fast way to do alot of wicks the exact same size with out getting the weave crooked.

would this work on a bulli a2? I have ordered the a2 with extra coil wire and wick,and have some very fine ss mesh.
If this would work,no chance of scorched wick taste

No reason why it should not. Would just have to make a U shape out of it and put the coil in the bottom of the U.

Well, finally got everything I needed in the mail to put this together. Its really a hybrid of several ideas out there, but it seems to work for me. I have taken the ideas from the $3 tank mod, Dan's SS400 mod and the SSR and combined them into one.

It uses a regular CE2 Clearomizer
510 extension I got from Good Prophets PV Adapters

I took the 510-510 extension and filed down the air slots (all the way to the stainless steel tube to get the connection with the o-ring installed), removed the o-ring from the Clearomizer and put it on the threads before inserting into the extension.

So far 10 hours upright with no leaks on bottom, going to set it on its side at the 12 hour mark to see how that works.

It worked out well too because the 510 extension can move in and out of the base (not easily mind you) to accommodate for irregularities with the lengths of CE2's.

I will have to report on the flavor after the leak testing, I just have raw PG/VG in it now for testing. It produces plenty of vapor with just a slight hint of sweetness. And to be honest, I didn't even measure the capacity. I will try to make an update for that when I get home tonight.

I still haven't been able to work out the wicking issues totally (still have to tilt every 3rd or 4th drag to keep the coil wet)

I rolled the mesh with the paperclip and then substituted it for a really thin strand of silver solder and it helped to make the curve with fewer kinks (I stress fewer as I have not perfected it yet). That way I could pull out the wire without having to un-curve the mesh. I am not sure if I am explaining it very well...

I use something kind of like that but with scissors. I created an excel spreadsheet with the cells the correct dimensions, printed it out and I lay the mesh on top of it and cut them out. Its probably not as accurate as yours, but I dont have a paper cutter.

This was the easiest way I found to increase the CE2 capacity.
Using only a 5 ml syringe tube, the original CE2 tube and 2 Joye carto condoms.
Those were materials I had in hand and fit perfectly. Very easy to build in a few minutes and gets perfectly sealed.

When bending the mesh, it kinked but I still went on with it, this was my first and other issues that surely would appear.
I dealt with the coil shorts was a bit easier than I thought. Soldering Nichrome was the pain in the ... I thought It would be.

The taste was just as I expected. Now I don't want to use anything else.
The only problem was leaking in the cup, mostly when not vaping.
The vapor and taste are perfect, and I assumed the kinking of the SS wasn't a big issue.

Did my second one right then. Now I rolled the SS to fit tightly in the cup. It kinked again.
The flavor was so perfect as the first.
There is much less leaking, but it still leaks and flood.

Did anyone have the same issues?
Does anyone knows if the leaking has anything to do with the kinked SS or what else could be the cause ?

Leaking has nothing to do with kinked ss imo. I have kinked ss that wicks beautifully and my mod does not leak.

yawn i still haven't seen anybody mention if the mesh is supposed to go in a spiral round the bend. if i twist it like that i can get a sweet curve with no kinks but i have not had a chance to install any of the wicks to try out yet...

Twisting (spiral) the wick its the only way I can get it to bend with out kinking.
It works well, though I can't bend it like Dan does yet, so I can't say wich way is better.
Maybe I (we) are worrying to much about kinking the wick?

Brazing with brass appears to be the reccomended method for joining to kanthal wire. Geez, and I can barely solder!

I wouldn't advise using brass inside the tank, touching the liquid.

Well, I still cant figure out what I am doing wrong with mine. I cant get my SS400 to wick consistently to save my life, so I always end up going back to the other one. I just hope I get it figured out before my ScubagenV3 gets here...
