5V UglyKit

Well, here is my 5V mod using a 7850 voltage regulator from Radio Shack. I wouldn't recommend using it, it get's very hot and shuts off after a vape - until things cool down a bit. While I wait for my TI PTR08100WVD as recommended in other posts, I added on a heat sink.

OK, it might be a bit overkill but I didn't think there would be much heat dissipation inside the case. It was also the only heat sink I came across in my pile of parts..

It may be big and ugly, but it vapes like a beast and stays nice and cool.

You might think about putting a fan on it too...

After thinking about this a bit....I think you should mount a small heat sink fan. The only step up from there would a refrigerant cooling system, but that may be going too far.

I should have taken the Blow Off a bit better to the heat sink before I took the picture!

I thought about keeping the fan on, but it would have kept hitting my fingers when I vape.

Liquid cooled...hmmm....that's an idea!

Water cooling is old hat. The new thang is using a Peltier cooler. At least, I always thought that reverse biasing a dielectric junction was a nifty way to do that.

Peltier tech is old hat, slap a phase change unit on there, or even better some dry ice or LN2!

incorporate a vacuum jacket, seal the unit, and fill it with LN2.
