Hi hangtime......does the BP860 have a momentary button already??? it looks like it might have in the pictures???.....wow that would make it an even easier mod than the cold heat soldering iron. If that one mods just as easy as the cold heat ..I might get one of those as well. The power and voltage of four AA rechargeable's seems just right to me.

Yes it does Pete. And it works great too. I am going to pick up another Weller tomarrow after work because I like how well this thing solders I want to keep it as a soldering gun and will mod the other one tomarrow night.

And for the sleeve question. Not possible, the entire socket is bigger. The rca wont fit.

wow that's great ...one more question .....will it come apart easy? It isn't a sealed unit or anything like that is it? .....If it will come apart ok I am definitely going to buy one. ....I just hope I don't like it as a soldering Iron as well....lol.........perhaps I could make some sort of adapter so I could use it as a soldering Iron and an e-cig.....hmmm, interesting.

Looks like it is held together with three screws but im not trying it till i get another one tomarrow.

That's great I have ordered one...it's twice the price of the cold heat soldering iron but still £21 is far better than the £100's of pounds being charged for all the retail mods. :)

It will be great to have a choice of voltages at the flick of a switch even if it is easy enough to stick one dummy battery in the cold heat if I want to change the voltage.

The more I think about it ...the Weller soldering Iron could be the ultimate mod of them all, if it's just as I am thinking it is, it's only a matter of making an atomizer adaptor to plug into it exactly the same as it's soldering tip does and you would have a dual voltage e-cig that can also be a soldering iron !! all for less than £25 . How cool is that!!! I can't wait for mine to arrive now...damn bank holiday.

Back to the cold heat.... I am not very good at the play by play mainly because this is my first mod.

First disassemble the cold heat.

Then remove the brass contacts in the first pic.

I used a RCA socket for the RCA mod(as seen in another thread). I screwed the wires to the posts the contacts were attached to. Pic 2

Then I reassembled it. Pic 3

Pic 4 is with the 510 RCA adapter attached.

You could also change the switch out so you don't forget to turn it off but I don't have any ATM so I will do this at a later time, until then I can enjoy the vapor while I work on my Weller.:D

Great job Hang, very similar to what I did with mine. I only left the white part out...I think I like it better with it now that I see yours.

The switch I used was one of the little contact switches 6 x 6 mm from radio sharks, and it almost fits in the same space where the original switch is, just need to file the hole wider and it even holds in place with no glue.

I also ordered a weller after I saw your pics :D

Thank you for showing your work.

Thanks man, without you I wouldn't have had this awsome RCA set-up. Thanks for the switch info too, I will do a step by step on my weller when my RCA jacks get here in a couple days. I had to buy a second weller because I like it for soldering and at$18 before tax I couldn't pass it up. Now I need to decide if I will mod the blue or the red, I'm thinkin the blue because it was the Blu adds that got me into vaping in the first place, lmao.:D

Hi hangtime.....yes I think the Weller definitely deserves a thread of it's own. I am sure it's going to be an even better mod than the cold heat!! I am looking forward to seeing how you get on with it.

Yes Warps RCA adapter idea is great.
Wow only $18 dollars for the weller...with exchange rates everything in America seems to work out around about Half the price us Brits have to Pay and we get paid half as much money as well!! :nah:

Lol don't mention the Blu ...everyone that mentions those is suspect.:)

Another thought ....If the Weller does already have a decent momentary button and it's only a case of making an atty adapter that will plug in place of the soldering tip, then perhaps someone should do a deal with Weller and go into business with these. All rolled into one...A high and low power e-cig at the flick of a switch. A soldering Iron and even a torch using standard easy to buy AA rechargeables. fantastic.

OOPS, that was a slip. I never bought one, cancelled after a little research.

Built a cold heat one with old parts from other e-cigs last night. Put a poor vaping atty on it and came back to life in a big way.

I read about using the cold heat gun about a month ago and have waited until I had enough parts laying about to build one. I really dig it for sitting around the house but I don't know about whipping it out somewhere. I do need to replace the white LED in the front of the unit to something green or red. With that bright LED going off in my face I feel like I am talking to the cops every time I take a hit. And the sliding switch has got to be replaced by something momentary.

Great thread and great mod!

Hi vaping.....yes it isn't something you will want to vape with in public but it sure is great for using at home. If your sliding switch is anything like mine though it won't last for very long. I had to replace it with a momentary button in the end.

Howdy Pete!

Yeah the slider has to go. It is crappy to feel for in the dark and smells of fracture and failure.

I am running it on standard AA batts at the moment due to having a ton of them around but plan on using Nickle Metal in the future and possibly adding a potentiometer to adjust voltage rather than using a dummy batt to reduce voltage.

Hey vaping ..You could always get the Weller dual volt soldering Iron, I have one now and I am quite sure the momentary button it already has will last a very long time and it's simply a matter of moving the slider switch for high or low power. I think the Weller has to win the prize for the easiest possible mod out there and it already has pretty much all the features desired in a mod but I have to say I do find the cold heat is a much more comfortable thing to hold in the hand.
Although I have moved on now to a four AA square battery pack that I have modded into an e-cig because it's the smallest thing I can make without sacrificing the power of four AA batteries.
