Didn't know if this belongs here or in the model specific group. Since it is a successfully built atty in a new arrangement, I put it here.
New to me was the fact that the atty, cup, and connector from a G500 Greencig pipe will fit in the 601pipe metal tube. I trimmed the wick to fit inside the g500 cup so it will not short the coil to the metal tube. The G500 was a plastic housing. Disconnect the wires from the 500 batt connector end plug. Push out the center connector of the end plug. Run the wires through the end plug. The end plug will fit the 601 tube. With the 601 disassembled(see 601 rebuild thread), connect the 500's atty wires to the 601 feed wires. Then put the atty, cup and end plug into the 601 tube.
My 500 atty was broken so I replaced it with a homemade one of 36ga NiCr wire. 7 wraps on a fiber wick core. I have left it on for a solid minute with no glowing or burnout. Now to figure out where I goofed. The atty takes a while to heat up to vaporizing temp and never glows. Must be too long a atty wire or too many wraps in the coil or the plastic cup is too good a heat sink. Question after question. Suggestions please?
PS I converted my 601 to a switched manual in this replacement but see no reason why it would not work with the original vacuum switch.
