I recently started dripping with a 901 and one of Drew's drip tips. I've grown pretty fond of it and remembered a video by Phee on how to remove the bridge from a 510 for more direct dripping. So I gave it a shot...

Once the bridge was removed the attys wick fell out and I was left with the coil exposed. This works great as long as I drip directly down the middle and the juice doesn't puddle up on the bottom of the wick chamber(not sure if there's another name for it) on the side. So this got me thinking about this thread. The 901s have a small vent on the base of the atty, when plugged it will cause suction similar to your Finger Atty.

So in theory all one would need to do is drill a small hole in the atty and insert the tube so that it presents the fluid directly to the coil. When the vent is covered during a drag that would pull more fluid over the coil. This wouldn't be as nice looking as The Finger but once the tube has it's form all you would need to do if the atty burned out would be to remove the bridge of a new atty and drill the hole. Unfortunately I don't have the tube to test it, but does this sound feasible? If needed I can provide pictures of what I'm talking about once my camera batteries charge.

I know this isn't really related this finger atty but thought I would post it here anyway. I've been reading so many members hard work at redesigning the atomizer. After purchasing what feels like my 100th atomizer I started thinking about this idea also. Something that'll last longer.
Just this morning I was watching one of my favorite shows, "Deconstructed" on the Science channel. One of the things they took apart was a humidifier. The humidifier actually doesn't conduct any heat. I has a special ceramic disc that vibrates creating sound that blasts the water into micro tiny vapors. So, no need for VG or PG. Just water, nicotine and flavor would be needed.
Just a thought. I think I'm going to purchase a humidifier so I can try this. I'll post back with some results.

Sounded good to me too Kry, but I'm finding that it can still be pretty hard to get the juice moving without some pressure or a major pressure drop in the form of a venturi. Still working on it though.

Bowlcut...I think there was a thread here somewhere that talked about using piezoelectric atomizers to do that but the problem is its a cool mist for one and it takes a lot of power. Also, nicotine is supplied in PG as a carrier so it would be hard to eliminate that. But hey...you never know until you try...let us know what you come up with.

You're right nico. Using a piezo device to atomize liquid is pretty tough. Especialy if the liquid has much thickness to it. You would have to find the exact frequency to form the small droplets and any variation in the liquid consistency would cause a different response, mostly little waves across the surface at best. Also, as you say, there would not be much throat hit since the vapor would be cold. You never know though until your try. Let us know your results Bowlcut.

This looks like it has potential.

The Mist Maker Fogger
That things bulky and heavy and needs to be completely submerged. I had one of those in a dragon mirror my sister gave me for my birthday a couple years back. It was to create mist in front of the mirror, and I remember it feeling like it was solid metal.

After dissembling a LR atty recently I got to thinking that it would be nice to have an atty where you could replace the coil since it seems that is the main failure point. It could have a connection similar to an auto fuse and when the coil breaks you reach in with tweezers and swap it out. If this was designed for dripping you wouldn't need the cone and extra mesh. Not sure if a snap connection would work around juice, but it's a thought.
