I recently purchased a bunch of small bottles of juice from Backwoods Brew. BWB seems to be well-loved among vapers, and is highly recommended here in the forums. Anyway, I immediately fell in love with Malty and Malty Toffee, which are a 70VG/30PG blend. I've only been vaping for a couple months and I have no experience with juice containing higher levels of VG (I've only used 70PG/30VG & 80PG/20VG). These juices are noticeably thicker. My question is can I use this juice in any device? Will it work better in cartomizers, clearomizers or tanks? I don't want to waste any of it as i'm waiting for bigger bottles to be shipped to me & I don't wanna screw up any of my equipment either. I recently purchased one of the new Kanger Pro-tanks, can I use it in it? Are there any limits at all? I would appreciate advice from anyone that can offer me their experience, thanks.

Hi

You can use it any device. Higher vg is more viscous, and has the potential to gunk things up more, but it takes awhile. It would probably work better in the Protank than anything. I use very thin juices in my Protank and have gotten the unsubstantiated impression that it might perform better with a thicker juice.

ETA: I've played around experimenting with different ratios and the only thing I've noticed for myself, as that higher vg makes my lungs feel heavy. But that's just me.

I also have the Malty Toffee. It is tasty but not my favorite- I think it kinda tastes alcoholic (which I get some people will love.) Everything I've read on here points to the fact that it is OK to use these higher VGs in any device but expect clogging issues more quickly. There are some that will say they just haven't been able to make the higher VGs work but most seem to not have trouble at all. I don't have any Pro-tank experience yet. However, I've used it in the same WOW cart from Vapor 4 Life for about 10 refills now without any cleaning, and am only just starting to get a bit of a harder draw.

From what I've read from other tank users sometimes bigger holes are needed for thicker juices, if you are able to mod your tank at all. I'd try it as is first.

Thanks guys for the advice, it makes sense that a thicker juice is gonna clog my equipment more quickly. I agree with the thicker juices probably working better in the protank, it has a very airy draw and perhaps a thicker juice would tighten that up? I think i'm gonna rinse out my protank right now & give it a try. I appreciate the help, the last thing I wanted to do was damage a tank I payed 20 bucks+ S&H for.

You're not going to damage a tank with thick juice. What happens with thicker juices is that they don't wick very well with string wicked top coil clearos and can get gunky in carto filler - again, it's a wicking problem, nothing has been "damaged," per se. You might have to throw them out if you can't get them clean, but they are ultimately designed to be disposable. I doubt the Protank will have a less airy draw with a thicker juice. I have a problem with mine wicking my thin juice a bit too fast. Several people have removed part of the wick, so it doesn't pull in as much juice, but I don't time to mess with it.

You're right, this juice works just fine in my protank. I'm learning something new everyday, switching to vaping has been quite an experience. I'm grateful this forum is here so I have someone to call on when I need advice.

Hi Bonnie, I'm familiar with both Malty and Malty Toffee; they tend to clog coils a bit faster than other juices because they are rather sweet, not so much because they are high percentage VG. Both BWB malties are about the same when it comes to wicking/coil-clogging as BWB 80% PG Caramel Cappuccino, for instance. I have used them successfully in cartomizers and tanks.

All glycerin has to be diluted in order to make it vapeable, the ratio is about 85% glycerin to 15% distilled water (or alcohol) or so, depending on juice maker. I have some 100% VG eliquids that are as thin and clear as my 80/20% PG/VG mixes.

If you're going to use sweet, dark, gooey juices in your ProTank, you'll just have to clean (or replace) your coil more often.
