I use a 901 cartridge with my KR808D, but I don't like the whistle top. Are there other types of cartridges in 901 or other cartridges that fit a KR808D?

510 round tips would work - you'll have to bend the opening - you do with the 901 as well. And then there's the highly acclaimed (and priced) Super T tip:
