Ok, first let me say that I've ploughed through over a dozen threads on the burnt atty phenomenon. It's happening to me with an eGo, but if I use my 510 attys with the eGo batt, everything's fine.

But I got this Joye Ego 2 days ago from an italian supplier, with 3 attys and I'm wondering if they are actually Joye or not. Also, bear in mind that I doubt he sells huge quantities, like say, a US supplier, so these attys could have been manufactured months ago. From the other threads I've seen, this burnt taste started happening about 6 months back, or more.

On the base (at the threaded end), they say '0710' - does anyone know if this is a Joye code?

Secondly, I'd like to order from TECC in the UK and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me whether their attys are ok or not?

Thanks

Joye doesnt stamp anything on the threaded end of 510 atties to my knowledge. If the bridge is more pointed, and not rounded or flat on the peak, then its not a joye. I believe janty has pics somewhere on their site to depict the differences between authentic joye and knockoffs. Hard to explain, and most vapors have no idea how to tell the difference short of haveing one of each side by side to compare. Tecc, janty and Totally wicked all carry joye, so your safe there. They warranty as well, just not on 5 packs. Burnt taste is generally caused when The wick (feather looking stuff under metal bridge) is touching the coil. Its scorches almost instantly.

Thanks for that very detailed explanation, Chief. All 3 'joye' attys are definitely stamped '0710', so it looks suspicious to me. And, all 3 taste bad. I did what I should - blew out the primer, dripped a few drops on them, and since I got them, I've washed them in warm water at least twice.

As far as I can see by comparing the 2 types, the bridge (assuming that's the coil part which forms the top arch), is narrower on the dodgy ones. Difficult to tell if it's more pointed or not. It doesn't really look it. But the wick does seem to be touching the bridge. Can I push it down or something? Btw, is there a way to remove the outer 'cartridge' so I can get at it properly?

Thanks for the TECC info. Now I feel safe ordering from them. I'm off to google images and see if I can find a pic of a genuine Joye.

cheers

maclean... the wick is supposed to touch the bridge, it "wicks" fluid from the bridge to the heating element.. the purpose of the bridge is to hold back the filler in your cartridge so IT doesn't touch the heating element, which is underneather the bridge and facilitate fluid reaching the heating element, that is why it's made like a sponge made from metal (burn proof)...
