I have been vaping with strictly Joye 510 atty's (on my eGo's and 510's) for over a year now and have never experienced anything but perfection from them straight out of the wrapper...until recently.

I did a brief foray into EMDCC's which I love but I heard they are hard on eGo battery lifespans and they do take a lot of juice so I have decided to go back to the 510 atty until I can get a higher voltage device. So I had one Joye 510 left over that I was keeping as a backup to use (we'll refer to this one as Champ). I had purchased this atty sometime earlier in the summer. It works like a champ. Great draw/taste etc. So I go to a new vendor that I have never ordered from before and ordered 3 more standard res Joye 510 atty's. The first one (we'll call this atty 1) was like sucking a brick through a straw and I could never get the burnt taste out of it no matter what I did and could never put enough juice in it to actually taste the juice. 24 hours later I could get no air through it. The company is letting me take it back. I opened up a second one (atty 2) and while it was a hard draw and you have to keep putting juice in it b/c it gets hot and burns up...it works better.

So thinking that maybe this new company just had a bad stock (it happens), I ordered from one of my usual hardware 3 standard res Joye 510 atty's and out of the package this one had the same performance. Little taste, burning sensation/sore throat, hard draw...it was usuable as well but you had to constantly keep filling (I direct drip if that helps) and blowing out.

So I put atty 2 on my eGo last night and barely tightened it on the battery. It worked much better. I could tell that it was not getting enough air for some reason. So I compared "Champ" with atty's 2 and 3 and saw that the air hole on the battery threads of "Champ" was about 1/4mm higher than the other atty's and the hole was larger in diameter and appears to be more patent as well. I think the new lower placement of the 2 airholes that are diagonal from each other on the the threaded piece of the atomizer is causing air flow problems.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I've only experienced this with i06 atties. There are two things that you can do to remedy this problem. You can either drill out the holes on the connection. Or you can use a sharp object and heat it up until it's real hot. Then use it to open up the holes. That will give you more airflow. Also, did you get rid of the primer before use? That will definitely help with the flavor.

Thanks for the suggestion washvap. I think that's way too technical for me to do. I'd probably drill holes through my hands.

Yeah I got the primer fluid out but I will admit these primers seem to have more primer fluid in them than they have before. I definitely think it's a lack of airflow problem.

One of the atty's the air flow hole is located right on top of the the threads. Weird. Hopefully they take notice in this and try to make sure the holes are up higher.

That really doesn't sound right at all. I've only been buying Joye attys too and I have never had one where the holes were "sloppy" and in the wrong position like that. I just looked at a whole pile of mine and the air holes are nowhere near the threads. They are all up at the very base of the atty.

You know the couple of vent slots on the edge of the eGo battery? (Same as on the 510 batteries too, but they are smaller and for this purpose harder to see.) When I screw my Joye atty's on the battery and look down into one of those slots on the battery, I can see the vent holes in the atty pass by those slots as I screw it on. The vent holes in the attys I've looked at never fall below the slots on the battery when it's fully screwed on.

Yeah my one that works really well is flush with the base of the atty as well. These that aren't working well are in the middle between the threads and the base.

I cleaned the two that didn't work well with an 70% Iso-propyl alcohol bath to see if maybe the excessive primer was the culprit. I will update later when I try them out.
