my friend and i finally ordered our reos today!

it will take them a little while to get to my reship address in portland and then bounce over to us in australia, so in the meantime i want to get as information-saturated as possible so i have a good handle on reo life once they arrive.

i must say that i'm a little nervous i won't be able to squonk correctly and will just fumble incessantly with it, so...

please share any tips for squonking, blind squonking, avoiding flooding, if different bottle sizes/VG ratios require different techniques, anything you can think of!

i know there are already many threads on this so i hope you don't rouse on me for starting another, it's just i see answers kind of all over the forum so i was hoping to get some knowledge distilled here.

if it makes a difference i'll be using a grand with 100% vg on a catfish magma, and my friend will be a mini 2.1 with variable ratios on an rm2.

thanks everyone!

Don't sweat it, the squonk is different for everyone because of the different attys and millions of different juices out there. Getting the squonk down is just a combination of feeling it, and seeing it fill and evacuating the deck... then its just muscle memory you don't think about. This thread of worry is just a symptom of the agonizing wait for the REO to arrive. Keep calm, and vape what you've got to in the meantime to keep the edge off - we are all excited for you guys to join the 'ville! Don't let me stop you from researching and viewing every bit of REO you can till it gets here though... I couldn't stop myself from doing the same!

It's not as bad as you're thinking. Really isn't. You just press the bottle in a little bit with your thumb, and hold for 2-3 seconds. The more full the bottle is, the easier it is to Squonk. It helps to take the Drip Tip out when you do Squonk because you can see how much juice is coming up to the bowl.

If you do over Squonk, it's really no big deal. You'll see the AIR hole a little shiny because juice has clogged it up. Just take a Primer puff (puff without pressing fire button) to clear the passage way. Then press the fire button, and you're good to go. ;) You may see a tad-bit of juice at the air hole. Just wipe away.

Pull the drip tip off and watch the liquid go into the RBA, when it gets halfway to all the way over the coil release and watch it drain. After a while you won't need to watch.

Also a squonk is not a quick press with a lot of pressure, it's steady pressure overtime. Most find about 3 seconds for a full bottle works well. As the bottle level gets lower a longer squonk is needed.

I don't know if readyxwick can be exported by your Portland connection. But if it can have that person get it and sent it too. You can build a coil an wick it with RXW and it will last for months with no need for anything except juice.

man i wish i could try that stuff, it seems great, but i'm already gambling with two Fred's Creative Customs bullet button covers, i think if i were to add something that could be used to wire a tactical nuke into the same package i may not ever meet my beloved reo :< haha

I just take the drip tip off, peek inside and give the bottle a good constant pressure until I see the top of the posts are submerged. Then I hold it for a second with it submerged and it's good to go. For me I build big macro coils with low gauge Kanthal. Thus there is more cotton inside the coil and more juice between squonks. I love being able to take long 6-8 second pulls.

I get about 4-5 good pulls off of this setup

I'm pretty new to the Reo scene too. I've only been at it for about a week. What I did was, I practiced a bit with the cap off, and tried to get a feel for how much pressure to put on the bottle, and for how long. I think I have a fairly good feel for it, so I blind squonk now. I don't take the cap or the drip tip off. I have been dripping for a while, before getting my Reos, so I already knew how to tell when I needed to drip or squonk. It also depends a lot on the atty. Currently, I'm using an rm4 on one Reo, and an Odin on the other. The rm4 has a shallow well. The Odin is bigger, and has a fairly deep well. So the Odin requires a longer squonk than the rm4.

I'm with Raynman on the RxW... It's all I've used now for months. It wicks very well and it don't take much. I am a MTL type of vaper and get on average of 3 hits per squonk. I think I only get 3 because I am usually doing a 5-6 second pull each time. The RxW will give you advance warning as to when to squonk also. I will say that a dry hit with RxW is nowhere near as nasty as all other wicking media I have used... There are a lot of good tips in this thread so far and I'm sure you and your friend will get the feel for it in no time at all.... Just a thought, couldn't your forwarded list the RxW as Ekowool, being that they are so similar looking, who would know the difference? Certainly not customs!!!

i just spent the last halfa doing some research and came to the conclusion that while i reaaaally want to try readyxwick i just don't feel like gambling on getting a love letter from customs, i just ordered 40ft of cellucotton instead for next to nothing. i'm sure it will beat the $1 bag of budget cotton balls from the local grocery!

I'm very new to this but currently i get two hits per squonk, tops, and often squonk after one hit.
I take 4-5 seconds hits, at .4 ohms so that's my punition lol

Obviously if you do mouth to lung hits with a small hole, you'll get way more hits that if you do long lung hits.

Don't sweat the squonking part, just press for 3 secs say, wait till you hear the juice go back inside (or just wait about 1 sec) and vape. I've never over-squonked yet.
Even when i tried packing with cotton and flooding my wick after rewicking and making a 10-15 secs squonk to prime it, i didn't get liquid out of the airhole. Depends on the size of the hole though i'd guess.

40ft of Cellucotton will last you a LOOOOONG Time. Using it in a RM2, you'll most likely cut them in 1 inch segments. This will probably give you 8-12 solid wicks from each one.

I'm a big fan of the cellucotton. I have the 500ft box, but have been giving it to local folks to try - so far every person has either asked for more, or where to find it. I haven't touched the KGD since I got the cellucotton. The sooner you make yourself realize its a different wick than cotton entirely, the better your experience will be. You can be much more generous with the cellucotton when wicking your coils. I just can't get over how clean it stays, how clean it tastes, and how resistant it is to heat compared to cotton. It will still burn, but not nearly as soon as cotton, and dry hits are much more forgiving with the cellucotton. Apologies for the cellucotton chants guys, but its definitely a wick worth trying at least - especially if you are having a hard time sourcing KGD or just wanting to try something different.
