When I first started vaping many moons ago I used those useless "cig type" devices where you had to change the battery every hour, drip it constantly and after a while they pack up and you don't get any throat hit either.
I like most love the idea of the cotton bud, easy to do, cheap and plentiful. The thing that I can't get around is the horrible taste. I tried to do the "shove the cotton under the coil trick" and still no joy except that the Reo was a vaping beast.

I thought on what I could use and remembered that I bought some Fluval 2Plus which are filter pads from a local aquarium store to fit in the cartridge mouth piece of the 501 ciggies. Well I put a tiny blob on under the very tight 5 wrap 28g kenthal A1 and there is no nasty taste at all.

If it's good enough for fish to be happy then..... Nirvana!
Bro, if it's the white pads, they are made of Polyester. The black ones are Carbon Filter Pads. Now, I know there are a lot of things about vaping that probably aren't healthy but Polyester and carbon?!?! Maybe I'm just a little paranoid but I don't think I'd want to use that stuff for wick material. Could be some pretty unhealthy chems coming off that stuff if it burns.

The "fish-stix" bubblestone wicks were said to have been infused with some kind of antibacterial. . . . . . . . I never bothered to confirm that; but it does sound yummy.

I tried bamboo. It was stiff and thick making it hard to work with in micro coils. It Has to be boiled several times to get the "stuff" out of it. Even after boiling, it was still stiff and it tasted like Bahiagrass. Let us know how Aunti' Lydia's fairs.

this stuff is pretty soft. Darrel says he doesn't boil it. we'll see. i think i may actually try SS next. i realized that i'm so damn lazy, i don't change wicks as often as i should, plus half the time i damage the coil when i change the wick. something like SS may mitigate that.

A big part of going REO for me was getting away from the gennys and the mesh. Torching, quenching, oxidizing, hot spots..Oy VaVoy! Don't wanna get back on the merry-go-round.:)

Yeah! I miss seeing his tiny hip "hey zeus" avatar. I miss stats, too.

Lots of missing nauts' since I came here back in May. Except for the core group, this place is looking different.

There's been a huge influx of new nauts' lately (a good thing). It's like people abandoning a sinking ship and coming on board the one that floats...or at least that's how I felt when I got my first REO:)

The only cotton worth vaping with is fresh picked from the cotton field. You have to pick it at the exact right time. One day too early or late and its no good. I change my wicks every two hours. Keeps me very busy but at least it got the wife and kids to leave me.

Seed ordered. Gonna get a mule and plow up the back yard. Seed will go down in Feb...be vapin fresh cotton by June. I'll report back.
