Hello everyone!

I've been lurking around here for a couple weeks picking up info and learning things about the Vape scene. I'm amazed at how many of my Google searches come back to ECF!

I see a lot of people saying they are using eCigs to quit smoking the real thing. This is awesome (and I'm currently on a campaign to get my 74 year old dad off of analogs after 60 years of smoking), but I am attempting something different with my Vape... I'm trying to loose weight.

That being said I'll give you a quick background - I'm 6', and generally float around 215-220 lbs. Not terrible, but certainly less healthy than I want to be. My wife has been helping me eat better, and with portion control, but my Achilles Heel remains sweet stuff - candy, desert, ice cream. My wife quit smoking about 5 years ago when we met and quit for me as I abhor tobacco smoking. Lately she has been jonesing for the habit again and came to me asking me to do my "crazy research thing" on eCigs.

So I did, and after discovering the variety of flavors hit on an epiphany - Using 0mg juice in sweet flavors to satisfy my sweet cravings!

We ordered up a Smokeless Image starter with a couple sampler packs and some blank cartos for when we get our juice from Heather's Heavenly Vapors (Crackberry, Caramel Apple Tobacco, and Vapin' Chimp). We got our Volt kit last Saturday and I'm hooked! She is loving the 0mg tobacco flavors to scratch her itch for the action of smoking as well.

I don't vape heavily but have already emptied our Cherry and Watermelon cartos. Its so nice to plop down on the couch after a long day and vape on some sweet flavors instead of snacking on something sugary. My next step is to acquire a Vamo/Zmax/ProVari/DNA20 mod (all depending on how much money I can raise with some eBay sales) with a nice tank on it so I can vape the day away. ;) After only a week things are going well with not snacking and instead vaping.

I am already obsessed with all the gadgetry and neat toys that can be purchased for vaping, and can't wait to get in over my head with his hobby!

I have definitely heard of this before.
I think Pbusardo has a video from vapebash where a guy he met used to not smoke and started vaping and it's done wonders for his asthma and helped him lose weight for the same reasons.

I'm not sure I entirely believe that's a good way to go for everyone. But there's a myriad of other benefits I've heard people speak of in conjunction with vaping.

I think it's possible for sure. my ADV right now is this great stuff called Blueberry Blizzard from Darkside Vapors, and it tastes like blueberry icecream and it's amazing. That said I actually eat whole foods / plant based. I haven't had ice cream with actual milk in it in probably 4 or 5 years. I also don't desire it at all. This vape is crazy good though. That could be some sort of regression on my behalf?

Definitely good luck and welcome though!
You'll find a ton of information here, and loads of awesome helpful people!

Welcome to ECF! I have always struggled with my weight and when I decided to switch to ecigs I was dreading the usual weight gain that comes from stopping smoking. I am so impressed that didn't happen and in fact have lost weight by vaping sweet flavors at night rather than snacking.

The gadgets with ecigs are fun. Along with an upgraded mods start learning about rebuildable atomizers. The flavor is amazing.

Hi, welcome to ECF and congrats. Although I don't generally advise vaping for non smokers I'll admit I converted my sis in law who is a non smoker/ never smoked. She had many serious health issues aggravated by her obesity which in turn aggravated her rheumatoid arthritis. She's an emotional eater and will down a bag of chips in 2 minutes flat when emotional or stressed. Over the past 20 yrs she's spent a small fortune on weight loss progs without success. Believe me I thought long and hard about this and spoke at length with her sister/ my wife. She's been vaping zero nic awhile now and the change has been remarkable. In ALL areas of her health there has been a HUGE improvement. She's been steadily losing about 20 lbs per month, is now able to exercise and her Dr. is ever so happy. Although he wasn't a believer in vaping, in her particular case, he now sees the benefits far outweigh the downside and has given his okay for her to continue vaping- she vapes about 6 ml of zero nic per week.
Vaping is all about a healthier lifestyle IMO and apart from using it as a smoking cessation prog I have seen the value of vaping in other health related situations.

Edit: Folks are free to disagree or criticize but I saw a very dark future for my Sis in Law and decided to take action however unconventional that might have been. I know vaping has improved her health and quality of life immensely.
Wishing You the Very Best of Luck and as long as it is a healthier choice keep moving forward IMO

I was concerned about weight gain when I quit analogs. I'm one of those constant-need-to-satisfy-my-oral-fixation type of guys! I also have a major sweet tooth. Before I quit analogs I had started eating a bit better and started an exercise regimen that is pretty strenuous. I was starting to see results with feeling better and weight loss.
Then I quit analogs, started vaping, and worried about weight gain. As it turns out vaping has been a great substitute for not only smoking, but for that need to plop those sweets in my mouth at the end of a day! Bottom line: I quit analogs, and I continue my exercise regimen and healthier eating. I can't say that I think I would have picked up vaping had I not been a smoker, and while there is no doubt in my mind that vaping is better for you than smoking, we do have to be honest with ourselves and at least admit that, long-term, we don't know how harmful (or not) vaping may be...
I commend your creativity, but I do question the wisdom of picking up vaping for it's health "benefits". However, I am not one to judge... if it works for you then more power to you.

Sometimes I inhale, sometimes I don't. Depends on what my brain is up to. I tend to inhale when I'm not paying attention - societal programming telling me I'm smoking a cigarette and should inhale! Which is an interesting concept as I have never smoked...

I have used flavoring in water/other things but it just wasn't as satisfying to me as actually eating something. Somehow vaping is, plus it is just fun to blow out a plume of Vapor!

Another big part of my curiosity is how much I enjoy gadgets. Nothing is as cool to me as something with buttons and a screen that does something different. :p

Hi asmotron, welcome to the forum. No judgements from me, just curiosity. If it's just for flavour, do you inhale? Have you considered other methods of getting that flavour such as adding flavouring to, say water or low fat yoghurt?

i have had that idea too. To use it as a diet tool. Could save a person alot of calories to have an after dinner vape of apple pie. It is usefull for people (like me) who have that 'hand to mouth' thing going on. They used to sell this stuff for dieters that you spray flavors in your mouth. Now what fun is that!

Interesting. I hope it continues to work well for you. I tend to be one of those "your body, your business" types, so I don't stress too much over other peoples health choices. But considering the wide range of weight loss tools that people routinely use - running the gamut from stimulant pills, fat-blocking pills that make you poo out grease, all the way to liposuction and bariatric surgery - I can't imagine that vaping falls high on that "danger" scale by comparison.

ITA!! Vaping seems to have decreased my appetite, so I can see how it might be beneficial to someone who wants to lose weight.

I vaping crackberry as I'm typing this. I've had it around for awhile (since January), and just tried it again...don't know whether it's steeped just right or I've put it in a ce5 clearo (similar to the X2 clearo from Smokeless Image) for the first time...but I have been enjoying it for the last week.

Not really a fan of the Carmel Apple Tobacco...but I have an aversion to apples since our bumper crop last year. (definitely overdosed on apples). The Vaping Chimp was just OK...I'll try it again in another month...who knows.

I think you'll like the volts...great starter device...although I still use mine after 9 months.

Interesting take on the weight loss issue. Might work.
