A Few Beginner Questions

Hi all,

So, I found my charger the other day  I've been vaping the last couple of days - only had a few real cigarettes and not really had any problems (yet :D).

Anyway, had a couple of questions.

First off, I've been going through about 3ml a day, and I've noticed it's starting to really burn my throat. The "throat hit" is great, but on the EXHALE I get this acidic burn at the back of my throat (toward the top). At the minute I'm using Pure Mist 12mg "Spearmint", and my vape is a cheap Ego-T which I'll probably replace at some point. I'm thinking the atomiser might need cleaning (it sometimes bubbles when I use it) but is it maybe the type of juice I'm using? I just found it weird that it's totally smooth when I inhale. I wouldn't want to go any lower than 12mg (if anything I'd like to go a bit higher - I have to take pretty big hits to get a noticeable effect).

The other thing was, has anyone tried the Caramel Totally Wicked flavour or have any recommendations for something similar? I get the feeling it could either be really nice, or horrifically synthetic :D

Cheers!
BTW, let me know if this is the wrong place :)

Hi, blindmelon, and welcome to ECF!

Mints and menthols can irritate your throat, but you won't really know if that's the issue until you try something else. Probably not the atomizer; that would start to taste bad or burnt when it needs cleaning.

Can't help you on the caramel, sorry!

And since this is the ONLY place you can post until you get 5 posts, you can ask anything in this forum.

Thanks for the reply mate! Yeah, I had a menthol in before this and it was pretty bad too - it would explain a lot. The actual vapour tastes great!

Can you recommend me a decent brand of juice to look out for? Also, am I right in thinking PG is an animal product? I randomly read it somewhere but couldn't find any other info - I'm a vegetarian and don't paticularly like the idea of smoking an animal XD

Kosher pg is supposed to contain no animal parts, but USP grade (non Kosher) may contain small particles of animal parts - at least this is what I'm reading. If I had to guess, Kosher or not, if your juice has a high pg content, that might be what's giving you that exhale throat burn. I had some irritation - similar to how you expressed - when I first stated vaping. I was using pre-made juices. I started making my own with all vg base (some pg in the flavors, likely) and the irritation stopped.

I am now making it 50/50, and not having a problem.

You might want to ask your vendor about the vg/pg ratio, and whether the pg is Kosher.

Just a suggestion.

As stated, PG is a natural drying agent. The mint will exacerbate that.

3 ML a day seems like a lot for starting out.

Also don't forget that the nic absorbtion from vaping is different then smoking. The nic particles in smoke are much smaller than they are in vapor, so the lungs won't absorb it as much from vaping compared to smoking. You will get the best nic hit by absorbing the vapor in the mouth and sinuses. So if you try holding the vapor in your mouth and nose as opposed to deep lung inhales, you might get a more satisfying vape and help the irritation of the throat at the same time. Just a thought, YMMV

As a beginning vaper I recommend drinking lots of water when you vape. High PG e-juice can cause dry mouth and throat especially with new vapers.

Yeah, I noticed that - hot drinks help! But this sensation happens only as I exhale, it's fine a second later. It must just be either a sensitivity to PG or the mint - I think I just need to grab a bunch of ingredients and experiment! Can you guys recommend a vendor in the UK?

3ml per day is not unusual. I typically go through between 5-10ml per day, depending on how much free time I have.

You asked about DIY. Now that you have your first five posts, you can go over to the DIY section and look around and ask questions.
I started making my own juice. I paid $112 for my initial set up (that included a very large amount of nicotine solution which should last me a few years; that portion alone was $54). Besides the nicotine, I got some bottles, syringes, blunt tip needles, ten flavors and some other stuff.

A few weeks ago I figured what it cost me to create a single flavor 10ml bottle of juice. It was 58¢ not including the hardware equipment (syringes, needles, bottles, etc.) that I will reuse over and over.

Also, welcome to ECF!!

PG is made in a lab and is a petroleum product so unless you got something against vaping ancient dinosaurs you should be ok. VG is a vegetable product and should not contain any animal byproducts. Kosher VG is just a waste of money IMHO because all VG is naturally kosher.

Ah cool! Yeah, I'm not that picky anyway, just had a horrible image of smoking processed animal blood XD

I was having pretty much the exact same problem with the eGo-t and most juices. I thought people vaping mint must have been fire breathers. Then I got an aspire DBC tank after trying it at the local vape shop. That got me to be able to deal with all juices aside some tastes.

If you can find a vape shop in your area, see if you can try the aspire tank there. Else spend the 10$ and order one, I'll bet that will make a world of a difference

I can't believe they still sell eGo T's wit all that's out now!

I notice you're from the UK. Joose juice has a nice caramel blend, and is very reasonably priced, I think they do small sizes and if you buy their 30ml bottles, at least until quite recently, they give you another 30ml bottle of the same flavour free. That works out at under £8 for 60mls.
I also like their menthol, very strong, but a few drops in a tank can give a nice cool hit to the flavour. Personally, I couldn't vape the menthol on its own, far too strong!
