Hello Everyone,

I was looking for a wire for TC. I was trying to find out some info about these wires. I read that Nickel was exclusively for TC and Ti too. I would like to get one of them. But cant make up my mind which one. I read in one article that Ti is a better wire for TC. I read a few articles, which although were nicely written, did confuse me a bit. I am not sure if there is cut and dry answer like this is better or that is better. If i had to chose one, which one to get? I already have SS wires, with i think i can do TC, but just want to play around with something more "exclusive"! :)

I want to keep my SS just for "VW only"! I did a coil with Kanthals, somehow, SS just felt better on the flavor part at the same resistance.

If you already have SS, why not use it for TC too? I do. Like you said, it's great for flavor so why change when you don't need to?

Go with SS, never mind the other metals.

NI and TI should only be used in TC mode and if you overheat them, they are dangerous. They also have a taste to them, which, while I used them for a fair amount of time (before SS was available), the moment I switched to SS, I never looked back. And note that I hated TI, I found it horrible, made everything taste like licking a set of keys.

SS is much safer, and work very well, but you have to make sure that you have enough wire for the mod to read the TCR value of the metal.

See my blog for information about TC (link in my signature below).

I don't know why you believe that SS shouldn't be used for TC and looking for anything else...? But I'll be blunt, you need to turn that around.

There IS a cut and dry answer: Use SS.

Whatever you read, those articles and such are most certainly outdated.

I have been vaping SS316 since it became available, and theres something to be said for it over the other wires

Ni - first available and used TC wire, as mentioned already only to be used in TC mode, but a pain to work with as its soft

Ti - i skipped Ti because SS came out not long after it and i jumped over it, but ive noticed recently theres still a bit of love for it, and a resurgence in some quarters. As mentioned already only to be used in TC mode

But what SS has over both is that its easier to work with than Ni and doesnt need cleaning like Ti does, and unlike both, it can be used in both TC and wattage mode....and for those main reasons, i always suggest SS

Yes Ti technically has a better meaurable TCR value, making it easier for mods to detect temp more accurately, but thats less true now with better firmware in mods....

The fact that it gives the best taste of any wire is and added bonus

This is a good read on wire types. SS, Nickel, and Titanium can be used in TC mode. There is some other good info in this article.

Ok. Thanks! I will just get different gauges of SS then! Is there anything like higher gauges are better in TC than lower ones or something like that? I was thinking of getting a 30 gauge and a NI one, but i will get another SS along with that.

Really for TC I find 26ga of SS316L at around 7 wraps to be the perfect (IMHO) TC coil.

Nickel can melt if used improperly. It would be the last TC wire I'd use. Titanium, similar situation can produce nasties and can't be dry burned.

Honestly one of the NICE things about SS is it can be vaped in either mode. If I have a TC build that is SS, I will often vape it in wattage mode to see how it performs, to get an idea of where to start my TC setting ramp up and etc. It's also safer, as it can handle being vaped in either mode and has much less associated "possible nastiness" with it.

I would go with Ti over Nickel, probably but honestly SS is the best choice in my opinion.

This.

There are instances when you want a little more metal mass and surface area than a single 26awg wire can do. I use twisted 28 for that.

It's usually not a good idea not to go thicker than 26 because what you gain in conductivity (lower resistance) you lose in surface area.

Go with 26 gauge... I've tried the other gauges, and I always return to 26 and stocked up on it.

It's thin and thick enough to do any size coil, provides a balanced resistance easily.

I see. That thing is i wanted to go over the 1 ohm mark and see what it does does to the vaping experience. But with 24/26 the loops turn out to be an absurdly high number! Although I have no idea if going over has any real benefits to vaping.

I go from 0.2 to 0.9, sometimes I hit close to 1ohm, all with single or dual builds.

The difference? Once I balance the temp control and wattage, none... From one RTA to another RTA, aside the differences of the tanks in airflow, wicking, etc., the experience of the actual coils stays the same.

I stopped caring about the ohms a long time ago, I simply pull my wire without measuring now, as I know that the length I take will always hit in the range that I go with (and most times I'm spot on or maybe off by 0.1 or less).

That is the beauty of regulated mods and using temp control.

Also a long time member of the 7/8 wraps of 26GA (3mm ID) SS316L club :)

I blame it on the Lemo 2, standard kanthal coil when they came out was 7/8 wraps of 26GA on 3mm ID, when i moved to SS316L, my laziness in not changing wrapping parameters paid off :)

Still the best coil build parameters ive used...

Several years ago Rossum introduced us to TI wire for use with the DNA. Personally I find it to be an excellent wire for TC along with SS; long lasting (26g) free of taste, good TCR and none of the hassles of NI

I use mostly ss in tc mode, but I have ti coils and the flavour is amazingggggggggggggggggggggggg!

Guys, just a note that TI is simply bad, it's worse than NI, tests have showed that it's a lot easier to oxidize the metal at lower temp, and this is a lot worse health wise should you inhale this oxidation even to NI oxide.

I don't ever recommend TI, and hope they take it off the market as a vaping wire. Heck, even NI should go, as SS is simply so much better in every way.

I have some 26ga TI wire and I built exactly ONE coil with it. I found it to be way too springy and a pain to work with. I ended up trashing that coil and never even used it. SS is easier to work with, tastes great and works in both TC and wattage mode. As far as safety, people cook food with SS pans and utensils all the time and no one has died from "leeching" yet. What more could you want from a wire.
