So I got the hurricane a few days back and I love it but I know that I have not quite unlocked the full potential to this tank and I think that is due to the fact that I don't really have a lot of experience. But would making the coil sitting closer to the air hole improve flavor? Also what would the difference between say a smaller diameter coil vs. a larger diameter coil. Also I put a juice in my tank that is normally a nice and rich rum cake flavor that is very complex and I got nothing out of it in this tank, it was very disappointing is there any reason to this? Also do you think claptons would really make a big difference or would going that route not really be necessary.

Many more qualified to answer than me, but I haven't near given to the forum what I've taken out of it, so I'll give it a go.

I don't think proximity to the air-hole is going to make a noticeable difference in taste. The air is going to cross your coil if it's right on top of it just like it is if it's sitting up over it. What it will affect is temperature. Further down = cooler vape. Closer to the mouthpiece = warmer vape.

Diameter of coil is a good way to adjust for resistance. Smaller diameter, it takes more wraps to get the same resistance as a larger diameter. Larger diameter = less wraps.

Not happy with the flavor could be many things. Make sure you've got enough power to push the coil, enough wicking ability to feed it, and play with volts/watts until you find the sweet spot.

Try everything. Keep what works, toss out what doesn't.

Have a great day! And good luck!

Not all devices are suitsble for everyones needs.

There are flavor chaser abd cloud chaser devices depending on how they were engineered

Height is generally a flavor killer unless one of two things is done.

1. Restrict the airflow as seen in the Kayfun lite plus, or Nautilus Mini

2. Reduce the space for the build

it takes time to tinker down your build to what you like. Some RTAs provide more flavor than others, some are airier, some chuck cloudz, etc etc.

If you're looking for flavor then I would suggest a tank that has the smallest chimney / deck cover possible.

As mentioned, flavor is inversely related to how much "space" it needs to travel through before it hits your tongue.

This is the reason why the serpent, serpent mini provide such good flavor. Its got minimal space above the build deck.

Also the reason why genie style attys have great flavor as well (theorem, avocado, etc) b/c the coils sit right underneath the drip tip. The vapor doesn't have to travel too far before it reaches you.

The same is true with the Kayfun, Orchid, Goblin Mini, and silverplay nano.

Looking at the deck of that atty, it looks like a KFL deck. I'd center the coil over the air hole and raise it up about 1/8" above the air hole, but not much more than that. Watch some of the vids on Kayfun builds to get the idea, then wick it as you need to keep it from flooding and still feeding. As I haven't built one I'm not much more help.

Well i build it like I have been building my kayfuns. I think the coil is sitting to high to the chimney.

@Two_Bears I have all those except the silver play and I never have any problem with getting good flavor out of them, but this hurrican is alluding me. I know it has potential because everyone is going crazy about it but just really boggling my mind.

I have no problems with wicking, the thing is a wicking beast and really easy to wick too. Haven't had a dry hit yet but I am missing something on the build that is hindering the flavor, also I have noticed after a couple of tank fulls the coil and wick is ridiculously gunny and this is with clear citrus juices with no extra sweeteners

The Silverplay Nano blows the doors off the original Silverplay when it comes to flavor.

Right now i am playing with the Fountsin V2 squonking Atty.

Flavor is great build is 4/5

Plenty of airflow. I have to keep the airflow in mine 80-85% closed.

The one thing i DON'T like about it is the chuff drip tip. Would like it 4 times as much if it had a 510 adapter

I own the hurricane rta(the tobeco clone) about a couple of months.I found that perfoms best with quite low resistance.26g kanthal 8 wraps 2,5mm diameter ,about 1 ohm.I place the coil so its biggest diameter is just a little higher from the two screws.About the wicking:i tried the cotton straight to the juice holes of the ring,i tried kayfun style wicking and i tried the S wicking i saw in a few video reviews. The S wicking works best and its more leak proof.Just put the ankles of your cotton in the juice holes and push the end` of your cotton a little down towards the bottom of the deck.I hope i helped my english aint perfect :/

I have 3 , 2 from Tobeco. All 3 Vape the same. My builds are usually 0.50 -0.65 on 2.5 mm SS 316L. Vape @ 30 J 460 degrees.
The flavor is fantastic. Coil just above the air hole.
I fan my wick and stuff it down. I use a lot of cotton.
You are correct about the coil and wick getting gunked up.
If you can post a picture of your coil and wick maybe we can provide some specific help.

Well i have changed it since. There is a clapton in there now and flavor is much improved though resistance is lower than I'd like. I did the m style wicking since the beginning and has worked flawlessly for me. No leaking or flooding and never a dry hit. I think I'm going to try to do a mesh wick as I have heard that it's pretty good that way
