Hey all,
Like the title states, I have a few stupid questions I know some of you can help me out with. I've been vaping for a few months and I just got my first RBA, a kayfun lite + clone. I have been considering getting a mech mod and a rebuildable dripper, and possible another rebuildable tank. So here are my questions:
1) My kayfun lite + is good, but I have a slightly hard time building on it because I have big fingers, and you have to wrap the kanthal partially around the screw and tighten. I know a lot of RBAs have the holes in the post so you can just slip the kanthal through and tighten down. I think this would be much easier for me. Does anyone know of a good tank RBA that has this feature that does not leak? I carry mine in my pocket everyday, so it's important to me that it doesn't leak.
2) I've had no experience with drippers but I have read that many people prefer them. I know this question is sort of vague, but approximately how long can you vape on a dripper before having to refill? I know this depends greatly on the specific dripper, coil setup, and wick setup, but I'm just looking for an idea. It may not be something I want to mess with if I vape for 15 minutes in the evening and have to juice it up 5 times.
3) When it comes to mech mods (this is the stupid question lol) how do you know when the batteries dead? Just when it quits working, or performance drops off? Do you have to worry about over-discharging the battery and damaging it?
4) I've done a small amount of research into sub ohm vaping and I understand that using an ohms law calculator, you can determine the required amperage of the battery. I (at least initially) only plan on vaping around 0.8 ohms, so I would necessarily need a 30 amp battery. Would there be any disadvantage (other than cost) of getting a 30 amp battery even if my setup only required say, 10-12 amps?

I'm sorry if I posted in the wrong area, or if these topics have been covered before. I did some browsing and was unable to find an answer to my questions. Thanks for your help.

Hi Ash...

You sound like a prospective citizen.
May I leave this here for you.

Hi ashron,

The only stupid question is the one that's asked after the bell rings - fortunately we don't have bells here!

I can't answer all of your questions, so I'll address what I can. My replies are in green...

That's a tough question to answer because of the variables. Some coil/wick designs are juice HOGS, and some sip at it a little more conservatively. If I HAD to give an answer, I'd say about one to maybe four or five drags per drop of liquid. And some drippers can also hold more e-liquid than others, so you're looking at a range of 4-6 drops up to over 20 drops depending on your device.

3) When it comes to mech mods (this is the stupid question lol) how do you know when the batteries dead? Just when it quits working, or performance drops off? Do you have to worry about over-discharging the battery and damaging it?

I went a little overboard when I first started using a mech, and I swear I was pulling the battery every 15 minutes to check voltage. Now I can definitely tell when the vape quality starts to drop off and switch then, and I'm usually around 3.5 volts when I do.

You would actually be at an advantage, not a disadvantage. Higher drain batteries are able to better maintain nominal voltage than their "normal" drain counterparts.

1) try using a set of very long and skinny needle nose pliers to trap the wire on your kfl+, I've had good luck with this. Also, leave a long liter at the end of your coils to make trapping the wire easier.

2) depends on how often you vape, wick, coil resistance. In 15 minutes I drip anywhere from 1-4 times pending on how much I'm vaping. It's my preferred method at home, try it. You can find some nice rda clones for cheap or an igo-w for $15-20.

3) you'll notice performance to drop off slightly, that's a god time to switch batteries. When performance really drops off you'll notice it takes a long time to heat the coils and get less vapor. If you discharge your batteries too low (below 3 volts) it may ruin them.

4) having a battery rated for 30a discharge is nice because it will easily draw lower currents giving optimum performance. Sony vtc5 is preferred.

Good luck
