I've seen 2 deer so far this year and missed both! The first one was with my muzzle-loader. This last one (during rifle) I had grunted in and he locked up at 220 yards away and he was ....... I was worried he was gonna bolt so took a direct frontal shot aiming just below his throat patch. Clean miss. So I went to the rifle range yesterday to see if my scope was off and at 200 yards I was only 4 inches low and my windage was perfectly dead center. Chalk one up to this dumbass I guess. This is the first time I have missed a deer with my 30-06 in 15 years. :grr:

Sorry to hear that Vapspaz. Looking at the glass half full, I suppose it's a good thing that you missed completely rather that send a wounded animal scampering off.

I had a funny thing happen last year. I walked out to my blind a half hour before daylight on a cold damp day and proceeded to have a Marlboro Light. That smoke cost me dearly as I spent the next half hour coughing my lungs up as it was cold and damp and I had an upper respiratory infection. Anyway, after I finally quit coughing, I got my hanky out and wiped my eyes and blew my nose. I then loaded my shotgun, looked up and out of my blind window and, by doggies, there was a nice young corn-fed doe standing right in front of me!

My buddy later said that he had just seated himself in his tree stand when the shot went off and it startled him so badly that he almost fell out. Sure glad he didn't. Can you imagine him lying there screaming and wallowing in agony while I'm getting my deer field dressed and into the butcher?

Nuts...That sucks...He sounded like a beaut~

For down here in SC yes he is. Here's some video footage (click on the image below) that I got of him on my trail cam. The camera turned on just as he was kicking the snot out of a little guy. Apparently the big boy wanted the camera for himself.

And yup Tracker, I'm soooo glad it was a clean miss. He'll still be around this weekend and this time .... Well... I'll post pic's of the steaks cooking on the grill. :)

While we're on the subject, I have a confession to make. I've always had good luck smoking and deer hunting. I don't know if it's because the smoke makes an effective "odor bomb" inside my ground blind or deer are curious about the smell of cigarette smoke or if it's just pure coincidence, but whatever it is, it seems to work - at least for me.

So after nearly 10 months without a smoke, I lit up a couple analogs a week or so ago thinking that I may as well plan on smoking the seven days of firearms season. And all I can say is WOW! I got so incredibly nauseous from those two smokes that it was ridiculous. Needless to say, I don't plan on having any more - ever. So there, I've made my confession and I feel better.

Man when I quit smoking I started seeing more deer then ever. When I smoked yeah, I thought it was coincidence every time I wasnt ready while smoking and had missed opportunity but without the smoke I dont see that nervousness in them like they know something is there. Now as long as I control my scent, play the wind right, they walk by at 15 ft and dont have a clue im there. When I was smoking they never came in that calm LOL......SMOKE CLINGS TO THINGS OUTSIDE JUST LIKE ON YOUR CAR WINDOWS.......
