So, with all the hype, I had to try a kayfun. Got one off ebay. A Tobeco, looks like a shiny 3.1. Is it just me or does anyone else find this thing just too much. Yes, it works, plenty of vapor, lots of taste. But I find it pretty harsh. In fact after 3 or 4 good toots, my lungs say "Let's not do that anymore" and I'm feeling short of breath. Switch back to my KPT2s, lots of vapor, perhaps a little less taste, but much smoother and no lung distress. I did copy the kayfun crowd and am building my KPT2 with cotton which was a major improvement. Much better wicking, and can take more power, for major vapor. I felt a little let down with everyone+dog happily vaping their Kayfuns. I'm sure there are other builds and stuff for the Kayfun, but I thing the whole chamber concentration thing just takes it over the top. I don't know if I should go down this road.

The kayfun is more efficient in its vapor production. You can try two different paths here. Lower the voltage input if a VV mod, or raise the resistance in the build. either will tame it down. I find the Russian 3.1 I am currently using to be the most versatile vaping tool I have next to the ProVari.
Good Luck.

Many find the same when the first try it, it's a more efficient delivery system, some....including me also find they need to lower the nic level when using a Kayfun because it does perform so well. You can try lowering the voltage or using a larger ga wire and more wraps for your builds which will spread out the heat over a larger area.

I was a major kpt2 fan until I got into kayfuns. I had the same experience as you, vape was too strong, and kinda harsh. I was using 18mg nic in the kpt2s. I had to drop down to 12mg. I am even satisfied with 8mg in my kayfuns.

Also, as stated above, I had to lower my power settings. I was used to using my kpt2s, with my own 1.6 ohm micro coils, at 3.8-4.0 volts. That was too much voltage with a 1.6 ohm coil in a kayfun style atty.

And, I had to experiment with how much cotton wick I used. Kayfuns seem to vaporize e-liquid faster than the kpt2s and need better wicking. I now use less cotton in the coils.

Now, there is no going back to the kpt2s. After getting used to my kayfuns, I can push up the power a little more, even past what I was doing with kpt2s.

Update:
Weird story. Got the clone from ebay seller was advertising a kfl+ got this brass kfv3.1es. So, I was gonna send it back after the whole harsh bit and all. Seller got kicked off ebay (probably for bait and switch) and couldn't be returned .....ed to ebay and they sent a refund. So, it was free. So tonight I decided I'd try again with 30 ga kanthal and cotton. I had it free so I might as well try to use it. About 7 turns on a #50 drill bit and pulled a little cotton through. Worked good much smoother and tasted good with the turkish tobacco 18 mg 50/50 juice. So, it was the factory wick and coil that were trash. Why would they sell it with a setup that tastes so bad? Anyway, getting to like it.

Never trust a "factory installed" coil and wick in any rebuildable atomizer. Besides the coils normally being garbage, many rebuildable atties come from the factory with machine oil and metal shavings remaining inside. The first thing you should do, with any rebuildable atty, is take it completely apart and clean each piece thoroughly. I use dish soap and hot water to clean then rinse very thoroughly with hot water.

I'm not that patient and I don't like the taste of detergent. I'm sensitive to it and I think I can taste a few PPM. I get out the 91% isopropyl alcohol it really cuts the oils and such and it dries quickly. I have to say now that I've got the kayfun clone working, it's the least fussy, most trouble free vape I've got. I can fill it and vape more than a day. No leaks, no dry hits, no BS. It just works every time you hit the button.
