I have a kanger subtank mini (plus V2) and want to build my first coil,
What type of kanthal do i need to vape at 40w?

It all depends on what Ohms you want to Build. And how Many Loops and the Diameter to the Coil.

To vape at 40 watts I would use 2x26awg Kanthal twisted, on a 1/8id and 4-5 wraps or so for about .4-.5ohms. But I vape on a mech, so 40 watts is around .4ohms.
