Saturday I watched Marketplace on CBC who investigated COLDFX's claims - all were false & the product is a huge scam. I never purchased any but I have some sympathy to those who were taken. Take the time to watch the video - its very interesting.

Now the connection - it was taking Health Canada too long to approve the drug, so they set up a meeting with their local MP who brought it up in question period & 3 months later it was approved! When you watch the clip, you'll know what a farce this all was. This may be a key to getting e-cigs passed in Canada. There already is way more valid research done on e-Cigs than that of Coldfx.

However letters have been written to many different MP's in Canada. They all basically did the same thing. Tuck their tail between their legs and run

We need to find out the names of all members of parliament who smoke, take up a collection & have Canvape send them starter kits with some e-juice(no nic). A free sample might just turn a few heads & get the ball rolling.

Very interesting video.. I never believe in most claims of these types of medicines.. it always has this too good to be true feeling to me.. but wow I will definitely speak out if someone I know is buying this garbage!

Yeah if you watch the video he now says he has nothing to do with them but he still swears by it working for him. I think more than anything he's trying to save face.

I feel, like many of the other 'suppliment/herbals' out on the market, that a lot has to do with placebo effect and/or basic lifestyle effectiveness.

For myself, I tried this one and found it made no difference 'FOR ME', however... I can't condemn the product simply based on my account because I have siblings & friends that find that it works 'FOR THEM'.

If you really think about it, and not just this product specifically, there isn't anything out on the market that is TRULY a 'cure' or 'preventative' unless your living the PERFECT lifestyle of proper eating (which includes vitamin intake), rest, stress control. Even then it leaves open the will of the mind towards placebo effect.

In the end...... if you try something and it works FOR YOU, then it works, and if it doesn't, then it don't. I don't think these types of offmarket findings will ever change with their sporadic results since to date it hasn't from the dawn of mankind who partook and believed in witchcraft and the flimflam man with their Cure All's in a bottle.

This arguement is incredibly relevant to ecigs in Canada.

Bill c-36 (now the "consumer protection law") was created by Health Canada to include mainly health supplements - with spill over to all areas of retail - including battery-operated electronics (and has yet to be challenged for it's violation of the Charter of Rights).

There is no real protection in this bill for consumers - just unprecedented power to health canada officials to shut down and punish any business who does anything that HC doesn't want them to do.

On Cold FX - doesn't work for me - but my sister swears by it. If a health supplement works on 20% of the population who purchase it - that 20% (imho) have the right to access and use it. Pharma products often have a similar success rate - and no one made a bill to shut them down.

Ecigs also don't work for everyone. Success rate is likely higher than 20% - but if it wasn't - does this mean that the government health authorities should have the power to make sure that you (in the 20%) can't access the product?

Success ratios on most "result-based" consumable products are really difficult to determine. Even the most unbiased testing can be skewed to fit a desired outcome and may not reflect actual efficacy.

HC oversight (and it's international counterparts) was initially created to prevent harmful products from the market. Yet we have a gazillion over-prescribed, seriously dangerous drugs in nearly every household - and "bans" on benign products that may or may not work - but hurt no one and help a few.

I'd vote to keep Cold FX and ecigs. That way you can use both if both work - or don't. It's your choice.

I was always suspect of ColdFX and never bought because it's too damn expensive! .. glad I followed my gut on that one .
For anyone who was scammed by this product you should really try Airborne which is the real deal .. tried and true.

Take it at the first sign of cold symptoms and your cold will not progress .... guaranteed. Take it at least once a month when everything is fine, and you will not catch a single cold. As a teacher I relied heavily on Airborne to keep from getting sick from the students.

If you take it once your cold is under way then Airborne will only help you get past if faster.

I heard an advertisement on the radio today for a similar product, but more reasonable claims, like immune system boost and the like, though I can't remember the name of the product and probably wouldn't be able to spell it if I did. My first thought when I heard it was maybe somebody at CBC has some stock in this new product.

That said, I would not put a lot of faith into anything that airs on CBC, even their news makes me gag. I also have never used ColdFX.

Airborne is another 'supplement' of vitamins/minerals/herbs, so the same approach applies (works for some, not for others). Also all kinds of negative (and positive) reviews, testimonies (and lawsuits, lol..... google it !).

So my mindset remains the same...... if it works for you: GREAT, if not: Don't buy it again, lol.

Lots of fluids and electrolites. Rest and above anything else, be calm. Stress causes a terrific amount of illness and prolongs what does take hold. A positive attitude chases the bugs away. Your body just needs to be freed up to do what it does all by itself so very well. That is the true placebo effect.

Cold Fx's main active ingredient is North American ginseng. It's been used by Native Americans for centuries and it's cousin Chinese ginseng has been used for thousands of years. North American ginseng should be used daily to avoid a cold and should lessen the severity of a cold. Cold FX may have stretched the truth to sell more but I think the effort to discredit Cold FX may have more to do with Big Pharma's over the counter cold remedy HAUL $$$. You have to remember, OTC cold remedy is a multi-billion dollar business. Follow the money.

Bribing politicians in Canada is nowhere near as cool as the USA. I mean in the USA they say "oh you don't like e-cigs? Maybe my friend Ben Franklin or Grover Cleveland can help change your mind..."

But in Canada the same conversation might go "Oh, you don't like e-cigs eh? Well, maybe My friend Sir Robert Borden or William Lyon Mackenzie King can come over with the Queen a few times and change your mind?"
