Hi everyone! I bought a Trustfire TR-001 the other day when I got my Vamo.... thought it was a good charger for a cheap price however I have read some bad things about it. I haven't had any issues so far. My AW 18650 battery charged in about 3 hours and the charger went to green as it should have. But I have heard it can overcharge which can be dangerous. What I am asking is is it a bad charger that is likely to cause problems or a fire? Should I get a different charger sometime down the road (I just spent a bunch of money on the Vamo, batt and liquid and being 20 years old don't have much spare cash lying around)? Thanks

I have that charger, multiple ports, 4 right? It does overcharge, I recommend getting a batt tester you screw in in place of your carto, they are like $7.00, will give you the V outage. Also, use protected batts.

By multiple ports do you mean how many batts it can charge at a time? Mine charges two batts at a time. Also, would my AW battery be a protected battery?

Being that the Vamo is a variable voltage device and has its own protective circuitry built into the microprocessor, it should be using IMR (high drain and safer chemistry) batteries. AW's IMR batteries are red in color. Their protected batteries are black in color.

As often is the case I agree with Baditude. The charger you have is on the lower end for quality. Many of us have them and not had an issue. I have two and both are 2+ years old. at the 9-12 month mark each lost an LED on the right side. They still work but I have upgraded to the Xtar. As money is tight go ahead and use what you have. When charging the 18650's 3 hours is about right if they are totally depleted. Just make sure you are around when charging and pull them off when they go to green. Get a better charger when you can swing it and keep this one as a back up or beater. Best of luck

I have the Trustfire 001, got it the first week of December 2012 and I have never had a problem with it. I did get a Nitecore i4 last month for a few reasons, 1.) Better quality 2.) Has 4 bays 3.) Can charge almost any rechargeable battery that I would ever use. 4.) Backups, backups, backups.

The Trustfire has worked flawlessly for me, for a cheap charger. If money is tight and your Trustfire 001 is working, then I wouldn't be in a hurry to replace it. There was a different model of Trustfire that had history of overcharging, but I don't think it is common with the 001. You can check the charge of battery with the vamo or a multimeter. If you find it is overcharging then by all means get an Xtar or Nitecore. Fasttech has good prices on the Nitecore, and so does Amazon sometimes, as well as the vendors listed above.

I am sure you know this, but to check the battery charge with a Vamo, press the left button and hold it for a few seconds.

I've used a Trustfire TR-001 for over two years with no issues at all. I usually don't leave it charging unless I'm home and can walk into the kitchen and check on it. I have forgotten and left for a couple of hours with it charging. It's always been charging or sitting with the green LED illuminated.

When I decide to upgrade, I'll probably buy a Pila, Xtar, or Nitecore but the Trustfire has been solid for me. I did read a couple of threads where people have said lately that their new Trustfire takes all day to charge an IMR battery. One electronics tech did an inline power calculation and determined that the components were charging at about 1/3 the current rating of the device (about 160ma instead of 500ma. I don't know it he ever got the vendor to make it good, though.

Mine charges an AW 18650 IMR 2000ma batt in about 4 hours.

Three years on my (2 port) TR-001 with no issues. Each "port" is independent. (Not all chargers back then were.)

I'm not into "charger elitism". 4.2 volts is 4.2 volts. And it's not overly...speedy...but it's not bad either. That's a good thing. Batteries stay relatively cool.

I've had 4 sets of batteries in use over 3 years (I'm replacing 3 of them soon now...just because they are old) and always used this charger and never had an issue. I'm sure some are better than others...but I don't know of any issues with this make/model.

To each their own....

If you buy a new charger go with fasttech for your purchase. They have the nitecore I2 and I4 for $14 and $19 respectively. They have free shipping and the coupon code 10OFF will get you 5%off your purchase. Their batteries are the best you can buy and their prices are amazing. For the Vamo get either the panasonic cgr18650ch or ncr18650pd at $10 and $15 respectively.
