Thank you for all the welcomes. Not sure this is the thread for me as not much to contribute, but love to read recipes and see what other people are cooking. In other words was glad to see Seabrook's stamp of approval for peanut butter.

Mary Kay, Don't recall ever hearing of tomato gravy before. You mentioned the curdling sometimes when the milk is added. When I make homemade tomato soup, I add a pinch or two of baking soda to the heated tomatoes, stirring down the fizz before the milk is added. Does not curdle then. (handed down from my mother) Not sure how this would work with adding the tomatoes to the thickening and then using the bs, maybe heat the tomatoes separately add soda, stir down and then add to the thickening, then the milk? Would work well with Bob's method with adding tomatoes last I would think.

Seabrook, Fleas!! Do not have anything for animals themselves. What we do in the house is take a small dish with water and a squirt of Dawn in it. Put on floor with a night light over it. Think any soap would probably work, and have wondered sometimes if one even needs any soap. Amazingly the dogs do not bother them, but the fleas will if you have any.

The dandelion greens brings back memories!

Where from in Kansas Classwife? Looks as though you are living the good life now. May I come and visit next winter? LOL

Thanks again for the warm welcome. I will just sit here and drool...

Thanks Toto - on my To Do list to buy a night light tomorrow.

@Saphira. I have nutritional yeast instead of Brewer's Yeast in my fridge -- will that work? You make your own pizzas? That sounds good!

I am going to use the excuse that my mother was a very strict italian woman as the excuse for my never hearing of nutritional yeast before. I was doing some reading just now, am I right that this is used for flavor? If that's what it is I don't see why not, from the sound of things it sounds like it would taste good sprinkled on the crust.

Hmmmm, can I ask what you use it for, I was reading people put it on popcorn, and it sounded interesting, I may look for it this weekend. This is the stuff that is high in B vitamins.

I don't know if Nutrition yeast is an "active" yeast but I think it is brewer's yeast. Use a small amout at first and listen to your body. It can cause gas (no pun intended) as well as yeast infections (candida) Do not use at all if you have mouth sores, and wear gloves if you have any cuts on your hand. Signs of an infection that is not the kind we girls get is..a finger swelling and turning red at the infection site.
I got a yeast infection when I was a baker and I can tell you my thumb swelled up to twice it's size.
Yeast..any kind can be very benificial to you..but like with anything, moderation and care.

I eat a lot of raw foods, and I also have a home food dehydrator -- an Excalibur (has five trays). So I make kale chips.
I use nutritional yeast to give food a cheesy flavor.

Kale Chips

3 red bell peppers
3 cloves of garlic
3 tsp salt
1/3 c. nutritional yeast
1/2 cup olive oil blended and poured over 4 bunches of kale cut into chip size pieces and massaged in.

Dehydrate until crunchy.

You don't have to follow the recipe exactly. You can add Liquid Smoke, soy sauce, lemon juice, ground pepitas, sea veggies or whatever you feel like you want on your chips. Cipotle peppers are good too.

I know you weren't chiding me MK. Beside, I like chiding, makes for interesting chat back and forth, LOL. I prefer my yeast in beer also.

IDK what I'm having for dinner tonight yet, maybe creamed tuna over quinoa and marinated carrot salad.

SIL will make his scampi dish for Valentines Day. Even though he's separated and I'm manless right now, we're still going to enjoy and acknowledge the affection and fun it brings to others.
