Ok, so i'm pretty new to vaping, and pretty new to ECF as well. So why do you want to bother reading my post? Well, before i bought a PV, before I posted on this site, i spent a LOT of time reading the forums, did a LOT of research on the various products available on the market, and still i made "mistakes". I would like to share this info with other newbies in the hopes that you won't make the same mistakes i did.

OK, so if i'm so brilliant and i did all this research and advance reading before buying a E cig, what mistakes did I make? I'm glad you asked. First thing is, and this is not really a mistake, more like i didn't really know what i wanted out of an Ecig. Like a lot of smokers i'm a creature of habit. I thought it would be wise to buy a product that resembles an analog cig. Part of my addiction was the rituals, packing the pack of smokes, tapping a fresh cig against a lighter, lighting the cig, ashing the cig, having something in my hand, oral fixation, all that jazz. In my case it turned out to be a mistake. I didn't want something that resembled a cig, i wanted something that delivered nicotine and kept me from having fits.

So the first mistake I made was I bought a product because of its cosmetics, not because of its ability to function. Don't get me wrong, the Blu has its place. It is compact, easy to use, resembles an analog and, if you were lucky enough to get an atty that actually works from blu, you'll get an OK vapor from it. The PCC is sweet, probably the best i've seen so far in the industry. On the downside, the battery life is garbage, the cartridges all taste the same to me (except the menthol, which tasted like a slightly minty version of everything else) and they are incredibly small, so they don't last long. Certainly not as long as Blu claims they will last. One more drawback, if you refill your blu carts, you void the one year replacement warrenty. That would be just fine, but Blu isn't exactly very timely when it comes to filling their orders. I was told it would take 4 days to get the unit, it took almost two weeks. It took almost 2 more weeks to get my next order of carts. I ran out and ended up back on analogs out of despiration. Back to the upside though, as a creature of habit, holding an Ecig that looks and feels very much like an analog cig, well, thats a plus.

I had my blu for less than 24 hours before i decided that i liked the CONCEPT of vaping, but didn't much care for the product i chose. Its one thing to sit here, reading about all the various products available, reloading carts, how to clean an atty etc....its another thing to actually use an Ecig. It was only after getting my blu that i REALLY understood a lot of what i read here on ECF. And that is why i take the time to write this post today. I already did the "guinea pig" thing, and i hope my experience will save a few other newbs the frustration i went through.

Don't get me wrong, I still use my blu, its very convenient if you're out on the town for example. The PCC looks like and is the same size as a pack of analog cigs, it hold extra carts, it charges your battery. And for those reasons i have continued to use my blu from time to time. But if you are looking for consistent performance, longer battery life, and u want to save money, get a different brand. One that doesn't mind if you refill with whatever brand of juice u prefer.

After only two weeks of vaping with Blu, and having spent much time going through the forums here on ECF, i decided to try the Joye eGo. Wow, what a HUGE difference. Much better vapor, MUCHMUCHMUCH better battery life, and of course u can refill your carts. If only i could go back in time, start over, and only buy one Starter Kit, that would be nice, but alas, the money is already gone. I hope my fellow newbs take the time to read this article. I hope it helps. Depending on what you are looking for maybe the Blu (and the other super mini's out there) are just what you need. I came in to this as a 2 pack a day smoker and I quickly realized i wouldn't be satisfied with vaping unless, well, I had some freakin' vapor! The eGo fills the bill for me.

One more thing...i've only delt with a couple vendors so far, but I'm already a HUGE fan of Route66Vapor.com These guys are on top of it. Super fast order filling, very friendly. Hell they even stuck a hand written note inside my last order thanking me for my business! Who takes the time to do THAT anymore?

DISCLAIMER: I'm still a newb too and a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing. That said I hope this helped my fellow newbs. Feel free to hit me up if u think i might be able to help you. Also, please leave comments so i can respond and get my post count up! LOL Thanks!

Welcome Phorbin. Nicely written post and I hope it will help somebody shorten their learning curve. Some listen but others don't and feel they need the "feels like a cig, looks like a cig" PV. If that's what it takes to cut down or get off the smokes then that is fine. What's another $75 and you get a nice backup unit incase anything goes wrong down the road. Glad you joined us.

I agree with Rosa! What a great post! I made all the same errors in judgement when I started vaping. I still have four unopened cartons of various Blu cartridges. And I'm 2 months smoke free after 25 years of smoking and six months of vaping. I posted this pic in another thread, but it shows the progression from starting with the Blu and what I'm using now.

Thank you all for the very warm welcome and the positive feedback. I didn't set out to become an advocate for vaping. But I happen to manage a bar (in PA some bars are still smoking permitted and mine is one of them) and in my neck of the woods most people don't even know what an Ecig is. Its a totally alien concept to them. On the upside, its been quite a conversation starter, on the downside at least one person i know is convinced i'm smoking crack. So now i find myself preaching (ugh) the merits of vaping to anyone who bothers to ask (don't worry, I am only preaching to the fools who ask, not blabbing off to every analog user i know). I was experimenting when i started and didn't find ECF until after i bought my Blu (*snaps fingers* if only.....) and was not even remotely convinced it was for me when i got my Blu. But the merits are almost painfully obvious to people once they check it out. I think i've already sold another 2 or 3 blues and probably a dozen eGo's. Joye should give me a share of the company. LOL

Anyway, I"m looking forward to being an active member of the forums. I still have a LOT to learn (like i said, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing). And if you have any advice I'm all ears.

Thanks again

Excellent post. I too did all the pre-purchase research on this forum and a few others. And, like you, really didn't understand it all until I had the actual device in my hands. Ordered the 510 starter kit from cignot.com (definitely agree with all the positive reviews for them) and while I'm generally happy with the size and the 'mechanics' of it, the battery life is really not good. Of course I'm probably vaping more than I really should be too :)

Now I'm debating whether my next purchase should be the Ego (for better battery life) or should I just jump in and get one of the big funky battery/juice-box type things so I can vape all day long with no interruption?

Welcome to the boardie. On a side note, I have one of the few smoking allowed bars left right on my corner. I used to think this made me the luckiest person in Philly, but now that I've stopped smoking it's kind of torture. I don't have the willpower to be around a crew of smokers just yet.

hahaha, I'm not sure i'm ready for the juice box yet Midwest. But i can relate about vaping a lot. I'm not really sure what qualifies as "normal" but it seems like i might be draggin on my eGo an awful lot. Still, my batteries seem to last forever, so i must not be over doing it yet....right? LOL

this is typical actually...it seems that the nic absorbtion rate is different between the two...with the absorbtion rate being about 1/10 the rate with e-cigs as with a combustable cig...so if 10 drags are equal to 1 of a regular cig then yeah you're going to seem like you're using it more in the begining..
on the plus side...it asl seems that nic levels plateau with e-cigs instead of the spikes that you get with a regular cig...

but that was beside the fact of why I wanted to post...I wanted to say that the 510 atty of the eGo and the Blu ....the threading is the same....just that the polarity is reversed... so in a pinch you could use the Blu atty on your ego...or the 510 atty on the blu battery....you just cant charge the batteries on the other's charger.... hopefully that'll help expand the capabilities of both depending on situations that way you don't ever have hardware going to waste or experience a hardware emergency..

It will be interesting the first night I go out drinking how I will cope. That thought kind of occurred to me earlier. I was thinking how much I've enjoyed my new found eGo and then it hit me... what if I go to the bar this weekend. Aha.

I'm not too worried. If I smoke a few cigs, I smoke a few cigs. I'm not dead set, gung-ho, I'm going to quit smoking! But if I ween myself off within a month or so then heck yea.
