I think this is a great topic. I want to start by saying if you aren't smoking you are vaping correctly. I read lots about vaping in the first week after I started. In fact I considered it switching brands at first, and was smoke free for three days before I realized I'd quit. I also smoked for over three decades and had tried to quit many times, and suffered through each failed attempt.
There is a post on this forum somewhere that explains the "proper" inhalation and I'm glad I didn't read that until after I had quit. Still when I read it, I tried those techniques and they didn't work for me. The jist of what is says, is you must take a long slow drag for 4+ seconds and then inhale. More like sucking on a straw. It also says hits or drags for 1 to 2 seconds won't get you any nicotine, that is where I disagrees. I take less than a 1 second drag and I am getting nicotine, that fact that I quit is proof enough for me.
We all smoked our own way. I know it took me twice as long to smoke a cigarette as it did most people and I smoked twice as many to be satisfied. I took small drags on a cigarette and then inhaled with lots of extra air. I liked a cigarette to last a long time and it took me about 15 minutes to smoke one. When I started vaping I did the same thing and got great results.
I take lots of tiny puffs. I draw a tiny bit into my mouth then inhale with lots of air. I hold it in my lungs longer than I draw then exhale slowly. Sometimes I play and exhale and suck it back into my nose. Or maybe I will blow smoke rings. Typically I don't. I like cool vapor, but I didn't like warm smoke either I think that is why I took such tiny puffs. Frankly I never thought about until I read all the information on vaping. I just smoked my way. I have come to the conclusion that I can vape my way too, it is working for me. I did experiment with what the experts said and just about gagged myself.
Most people will find their information extremely beneficial, but a few may find it doesn't work for them, like I did. If you happen to fall into that group, do what is good for you. If you are enjoying your vaping, then enjoy it. I have read a thousand times, taste is subjective and I agree. I have also come to the conclusion there is no one right way to vape and I really don't believe we all smoked the same way either.
I also found some research on smoking.. it was quite eye opening for me. It said that nicotine is both a stimulant and a relaxing agent. It went on to stay that smokers tend to take rapid quick puffs when they want to stimulate the brain or to overcome feelings of depression. Smokers who wanted to calm anxiety or relax take deep long draws. I found that interesting and came to the conclusion that my tiny puffs fell into the stimulate category, but my slow draws fell into the relax area. The research didn't say smokers did this conscienceless, but that they did it more instinctually. I guess it made sense to me and explained why some of the experts advice on inhaling might not work for me, but I am sure it worked for them as well as others.
Thanks again for posting this question. I hope everyone can find someone to relate to and that we all realize if we are enjoying vaping we are doing it right.
