A sad day for the vaping community...

Disgusting. She's such a wonderful lady and really enjoyed vaping and making her Video's as a hobby. It's so sad that she was backed into a corner emotionally that she felt no other way out then to give up, you have to imagine the personal attacks were pretty severe at that point to make her feel as if she wanted to leave the community entirely.

The internet is a gnarly place to reside in as far as Video's and reviews go. People think they have anonymity behind a computer but what their really doing is causing real pain and anguish. Some people just don't understand the damage that can be done with words.

So true. I decided a long time ago to control my own destiny on the Internet. I love Internet gaming as a hobby. I disliked the way people I played with could be so truly obnoxious and disrespectful. I wanted a place to play where .......s wouldn't be able to ruin my mood or experience. I then founded ecggaming.com 10 years ago now . Now I game and talk with like minded individuals and would not leave it for the world.

We not only control who we game with but the way visitors are allowed to interact with other individuals on our servers.

Never again will I allow someone to destroy my experiences on the net or any of my community. If someone comes in being rude,disrespectful or trolling they will be banned and their ip blacklisted forever. I don't play around. Cyber bullying is not a game it's not funny and I for one won't tolerate it.

When something like this happens, my heart breaks for the person it happens to. I have lived through intense bullying. It is one of the most difficult things to ever have to find your way to muddle through. The only thing that kept me going was the love I felt from people I knew truly cared for me.

I only hope that this serves as a wakeup call to our entire community. We need to stand up for not only ourselves, but others, and not allow this kind of thing to happen anymore.

I had such an incredible vaping "high" yesterday at VapeBash, only to have such a horrendous "low" when I saw SteelJan's video from last night. Now I find myself wondering about the sad state of the human condition that something like this happens so easily at the click of a mouse. I've seen it happen in other context, so I know it's not exclusive to the vaping community. But as a community we must all come together and support one another or our enemies that would love to take away our right to vape will see this fissure amongst us and exploit it against us.

I saw Jan please for help vid. I have rarely been literally moved to tears but her pain was so real and heart felt unless your made of stone you would have been truely move by it. For cruel individuals to drive another person to such pain make me sick. Jan was and is one of what I consider a true anchor of the vaping community. The loss of her passion to help others, her technical expertise, her abilty to explain and educate us with some seriously technical things in terms we all can understand was truely amazing. I will miss her and hope that she can regain her health and spirit to keep up the good fight. Thanks you Jan for all you have done for us. You will be and already are missed.

I think it's dumb that she let them win. The internet, it's nothing like high school. You most of the time you KNEW the bullies where the Internet is millions of people. How can you expect for someone NOT to dislike you or your posts? We all have different viewpoints right? There is no reason this should have happened, but if it does, why give up your hobby? She loved doing what she did, so why let someone else control you? I'm mad how this whole situation turned out. I'm mad at her for letting them outweigh us :/ and I mean no disrespect by that!

This kinda crap happens in school...

I've spent the last 12 years working with students in my schools on bullying. Sometimes they just see it as "teasing", then I have to inform them that's just another form of bullying/harassment. We'd often have to go to the point of getting them to sign a bullying contract, where if they 'violated', they'd get transferred to the local "Alternative School" (the place for hard cases). Bullying sucks!

People tell Jan to get a tougher skin... that's just B.S.! Some people are more 'sensitive' than others, and the negative comments damage their self-image, and really hurts their feelings. My 10 y/o is like that, and no amount of "Buck up!" or "Ignore them." advice is going to ease the pain they feel.

i have so much respect for SteelJan... when i first started modding, her videos were the ones that taught me so much about modding, ohm's laws and how to do just about anything... i wish i could say that i followed all of her videos but i did watch many videos and she was always succinct, intelligent and well meaning...

I know what its like to get harrassed and bullied on line... i'm no longer a host because of a bully... problem is, because i'm a man i'm expected to put up with my harrasser and "be professional" and accept him and because i'm still hurt and a bit bitter, Ihave been treated rather poorly by people who think that i should just suck it up...

for me, though on a completely different scale of severity, asking me to tolerate being around this person and be associated with this person is painful for me... in similar ways to asking a woman who has been raped being forced to be social with her ......... again... i know the comparison is one extreme to the other from eachother, but i really cannot think of any better way to describe how i feel around this person... much like SteelJan, rather than be forced to put up with it... i quit hosting on that network...

its hard for someone on the outside to see or understand the stresses that bullying and harrassment causes to the person being attacked... particularilly for someone, like me, who deals with depression and anxiety... and likely the same reason why SJ is going to go into hiding for a while... its easier to hide and not get beat over the head with anxiety and stress than stand your ground and endure the hits while noone does/can do anything to stop it.
