I got a call this morning that my son had gone to the hospitol.
Well he is home now , even if not feeling well.

It seems he woke up early this morning in pain and went to check because it was right in his groin.

He had gotten bit with a brown recluse spider in his sleep. He had to go in and get it cleaned out and packed at the hospitol

For those that dont know, a brown recluse is a small brown spider common in the southern states. The venom will literally eat away the flesh from the inside out creating a big hole and it burns .

Now he had been spraying for spiders recently and this may have driven it out of where it was hiding,

We tend not to think of this stuff daily down here , but it is a good reminder to spray , spray , spray . Now they are very active this time of year especially.

So go grab that insect can and go to it!

With the dry heat we have been having here they are coming in our garage. We got three on one sticky trap in one day. DH has been bitten three times, once on the hand, that one was bad his whole hand swelled up like a ballon.
Most people don't even know they have been bitten until the bite starts getting read and infected.

Actually I dont know what they pack them with, they open it up and pack them with gauze soaked in something after they drain them and flush them out.
I literally leaves a hole in you.
The venom literally disintergrates the flesh. It is gross to say it, but true.
He has been bitten twice now and my dil has been bitten once.

But ya he got bit in a really bad spot poor guy,
He is not a happy camper and not moving much at this point .

They look like a rather innocent spider, small and brown. Hard to spot or notice them.

Yes most wont even know they got bit until it is swelling or red, his had already turned black by the time he got up to look.

I had hubby out spraying our lania today already LOL

One problem with a brown recluse is that the venom may travel before settling in a spot. That is part of what causes so many of the problems from the bites. Since it is red or swollen away from the bite spot, people don't make the association fast enough to prevent the skin and surrounding tissues from becoming necrotic.

I'm sorry your son had to go through that. I'm glad he's doing well.

In this G-d forsaken state (I still can't figure out why I moved here,) we have bigger problems with flea's, tick's, mosquito's, errant snakes, and the occasional scorpion. Spiders too, but I like them, they kill other stuff and tend to leave people alone, same for wasps around here.

I will have to be extra careful when I clean out the garage though... thanks for the reminder.

Dang the only thing we don't get here is the hurricanes.

amen - and i was out in no-man's land an hr west of OKC and i'd encountered more black widows and recluses there than anywhere else i've been (and a few copperheads in tall grass - luckily wasn't bit but they could have warned me they were there sooner)

Thanks guys and gals for the good wishes. I will call him again tomarrow and see how he is doing. His wife is home from work now so he is ok.

She will take good care of him tonight. I am so creeped out though I keep looking around the house now for spiders LOL.

Oh yes , we have deadly spiders, anacondas, the tiny rattle snake, corel snakes, heck a lot of poisenous snakes , even some poisenuse plants. Alligators, bears, panthers, the occasional escaped monkey. This place is a zoo!!
