I was sitting with my dad yesterday at the VA and we were talking about all kinds of stuff. He is a fan of the walking dead series on TV, so we were shooting the breeze about that. Then he brought up a question, I had no answer for.

If zombies are reanimated dead people, and they are basically brought back to "life" with the simplest of motor skills- walking and the need to feed, and they remain trace memories from their past- George Romero, the godfather of all zombies brought this up as the reason the undead flock to the malls- what would a vegetarian zombie eat? It seems that the trace memories of the vegetarians and vegans would play so small role in the reanimation of these dead folk, and their sub conscience or whatever, would tell them to eat plants and trees vs the eating of flesh. Any thoughts?

I think this is the answer:

Otherwise, you'll have to endure the movie (yes there's actually a movie) Attack of the Vegan Zombies Attack of the Vegan Zombies! (2010) - IMDb
to find out. You may find the answer unworthy of the journey though...

Well..I am thinking that whether the living person was a vegan or a carnivore - they will BOTH have to overcome their aversion to cannibalism after being reawakened as an undead people eater...

True, but I would think that a meat eating person would make a meat eating zombie. We all know that vegetarians and vegans are already wired wrong in the head and once they are reanimated, I wonder if they will still be wired wrong, or if basic, primitive instincts will kick in and they go back to eating meat?

Another question, are animals exempt from being eaten by the undead?

Some movies will show dogs being able to just walk amongst the zombies and not be bothered, but others show a sewer zombie eating a rat. I know there was a movie with zombie sheep in it.

Will an animal #1 be able to be turned into a zombie and #2 if they can become zombies, can they turn a person into the undead?

All up in your grill..
I have a question. If I teach my super zombie minions how to fill cartomizers for me, would they then be classified as "drug delivery devices" and subject to federal regulation? (I know it won't matter post Z day but I don't need the FDA banging on the door to my secret location as I am ramping up pre-zday production.)

You have a valid concern. Be sure not to have any zombies shipped here from overseas or they may be confiscated by customs...and won't they be surprised! And, by the way, I forgot the address to your secret location ... what was that again?

Most books/movies skip right over the question but there is one (that I really liked too) called Feed by Mira Grant. Other than some creative imaginings that EVERYTHING carried the virus but was kept in check until death allowed it to overtake the host, it put a weight threshold for animals (small dog/cats) to carry/infect/come back. IF that becomes the actual virus we'll have to deal with... The steak part of the casino would be even more interesting for sure!

For the time being, I am going to hope that animals will not be able to carry the virus. My whole zombie plan revolves around me being able to hunt fresh meat. If the animals are infected, I need to totally rethink my whole plan.

Dude, just inject them with the serum. It'll be all good.

Can you find a way to eliminate 'Clostridium tetani' as well? The premise of that books infection was based on a world wide presence of the virus in every living mammal. Similar to a background radiation causing the dead to rise, nearly impossible to block as it's all around (and in) us.

Maybe it was the new tactical challenge that drew me to the story. Re-animation isn't just a possibility, but inevitable, and can only be postponed and not avoided completely!
