Question: Exactly how normal is it to see a full grown man wearing an Irish wedding dress (trimmed up to hip level front and knee level in back), white tights and black knee high boots? Okay, now same question but in regards to the same person at a job (and not a renaissance) fair? I don't think anyone else even batted an eye at this guy and I had to resist the urge to snap a phone pic just to prove it was real!

LOL, it really depends on where you are when you see this... Capital Hill Seattle or Portland/ Barista or Bookstore =perfectly normal. Go up to Everett or down to Tacoma and...not so much. Still, you COULD have taken us a clandestine picture...:2cool:

It was at Qwest Field. I just can't believe how sloppy/dirty/strange some people showed up for a job fair. It's not an interview per se, but would YOU call someone back for a serious interview if they applied wearing torn up clothes?!?

Wow. At a Job fair? That is just screaming "Don't Hire Me!"...

I don't think much has changed in the past 20 years. Stick with a nicer Cobra with upper and lower sidebands if you can swing it. A single 'fire stick' is still the best cheap red antennae you can get. There's some nice detachable ones out there with the ballast at the base but I really don't know who's making the best ones these days. Like I said, there hasn't been any real innovations that I've heard of in the last 20-30 years for citizen band radios. With cheap cell phones available, kids today don't even bother with them anymore like when I was a teenager. They're back to being a trucker thing again. If you really want to reach out and touch someone, check into a mobile HAM set-up. I know the fiberglass whip antennae really gets the word out. :D

I did a little more digging last night and found the CB info. Like you said, and kind of what I thought . . . nothing is any different. The bluetooth stuff I was finding is merely that you can use the mic with your phone . . . basically a way to get past the hands-free deal. Too much hassle if you ask me.

I would love to get into HAM at some point. A little more spendy, but worth the ability to talk past your own neighborhood. On z-day, a HAM radio would be much more useful, that's for sure.

You guys are making me kick myself. I had a brand new CB and antennae for my Jeep that I never got installed. It sat in my garage for 6 years, and I finally just took it all to Goodwill donation in January. Now I want it back! The only thing that makes me feel better is that the guy working in donations was very excited about it and probably bought it for himself. I also took a 50 year old ham type radio with the tubes in it etc.. that I had inherited at some point, and the guys at GW liked that too. So, I'm just happy to see stuff getting used instead of gathering dust in my storage places. But. dang. Now I need to go get another CB...

I've done that so many times in my life. I've collected things that I may need to use, then got rid of stuff to de-clutter, only to find that I needed the things I got rid of, almost immediately after getting rid of them.

Remember that all CBs were created equal. The antennas aren't though. If you want to go cheap, you can cut cost in the actual radio, but try not to in the antenna. I'll be heading over to WallyWorld this weekend and see what they've go on sale. I don't even have a rig yet, so I'll wait on the antenna.

Wait... what?!?!? I think the only place with more unreliable electronics is AutoZone. I'd recommend buying online long before WalMarx. Shipping is usually less than sales tax after all.

Well... Kraco and Bose radios both pick up the same AM/FM bands but there's a world of difference in noise/sound between them :D You've got me looking again and it seems the K40 antennae is still around with good reviews. Detachable whip keeps vandals at bay and even my dad (who drove professionally) liked it enough to have on his own car. In my opinion it's still Cobra over Midland all day long. Look for a 29 or 148 online and compare the prices to walmarx and you just might be surprised...

I really don't understand how Kraco is in business. I used to buy their car stereos when I'd sell a car, just so I could keep my quality stereo, but is there really that much of a market?

I'll be getting a Cobra . . . maybe a Uniden . . . where ever I end up getting it. I'll be waiting until I get my rig for the antenna, but really don't look at spending too much there either. My grandpa's rigs always worked great with a stainless 102" whip. Maybe I'll shop for K40, Firestick, maybe Wilson to keep on in town though, as I seem to remember smacking a few traffic lights.
