Welcome aboard. I can try and answer some of your questions but like most thing's, how long is a piece of string.

901's are recommended to newcomers. I have 2 that have been going for 1 week now with no major issues. I have lost 1 battery so far, sticky switch syndrome.

Changing parts? The more you use it the faster it is more likely to fail. Some say 3-6 weeks is average for an atomizer but hey. It all depends on how much you use it.

Equipment to start? Usually a starter kit will consist of 2 batteries, 1 charger, 1 atomiser and a small selection of cartridges. Most e-smokers would advise at least to purchase a spare atmoizer at the same time, and and extra battery or 2 would help out too.

Prices vary from supplier & your location. May I suggest you update your profile with your location. This will make it easier for members to advise on suppliers local to you.

30 rollie's no filter, anyone care to attempt to work out that nic intake? I would be amazed if 2 901 batteries would survive the whole day for you. I think the longest duration without modification yourself would be the screwdriver. The initial investment may seem a little high to some people though.

All in all. Try a 901 out for a few days and see if vaping is for you. It may help you to cut down on the anologs as opposed to going for a straight swap from the word go. Failure at that point would lead to frustration. Basically it is better to learn to use and maintain the e-cig before relying on it as a replacement for the rollies. :thumb:

Good luck with it.

Hi John, welcome to the forum.

The DSE901 is a good device to start off with. It will give you an idea of whether esmoking is for you.

Roll ups average 1.2mg of nicotine each so thirty would be 36mg of nic per day. Most people vape around 2ml of eliquid a day and that is measured in mg of nic per ml. To replace 36mg of nic with 2ml of eliquid you would need to use 18mg (high) eliquid. You might vape more or less though so be prepared to make adjustments, that's just a general idea.

This is the best place to start on the forum - http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/2562-helpful-links-videos-new-user.html

I'd get two starter kits if you can afford it. However, there are a few, very few it seems, who don't take to e-smoking. On the other hand, if you decide you love it after a couple of days, one starter kit will have you in a panic. You want extras of everything, including chargers (my first one, less than a month old, just broke). It seems most of us find ourselves off regular cigs and that's when you start to panic about equipment breaking.

I'm a month into it and I got one bad atomizer, which I'll have replaced, and the battery charger that broke (it's loose inside and batteries won't screw into it anymore). A couple of my first batteries are not holding a charge quite as long as they did. One atomizer clogged and I've semi-revived it with cleaning. The more stuff you have the better, but I haven't quite worked out what is necessary to have on hand yet. I want to have time to place an order and wait for shipping as an item goes bad, without having to grab real cigs.

I have the 901, and after 2 weeks one of the batteries went bad, the switch seems to stick on, even if not connected to an atomizer. This could be a result of user error however. As the batteries loss charge it starts getting harder to get a good hit and i, in my youth, may have added too much juice thinking that was the problem. It seems allowing juice to seep into the battery is not a good thing, who would have thought?

IMO a good starter kit with at least two batts and two atomizers and some e-liquid is all you need to test the waters.

I think most on this forum will agree that once you get a taste for e-smoking you are going to want to try out different cigs and different flavors so no point in spending to much on your training wheels

I reccomend the 801 penstyle as a starter,
cartridges and batteries last longer.

the cheapest way to try it out is with-
usb smoker 1 atomizer and a few cartridges,

I am sure whoever you buy from will give you a couple of cartridges with your purchase of usb and atomizer.
cost to try it out about 30.00

sit at the pc or with laptop,
try for a few hours,
if you likeeeeee
then buy some 'quipment.....

starter IMHO --

2 x starter kits
+EXTRAS --
2 x ATOMIZERS
2 X BATTERIES
30 mls liquid

this would give you in total --
1 x usb smoker
2 x chargers
4 x atomizers
6 x batteries
10+ cartridges + 30 mls liquid

approx cost total - about 250.00
less than 4 weeks tobacco cigs......

an excellent starter kit,
will keep you going for 3 months
make sure you replace parts as needed.

No you don't need to cover the hole. If it needs hard drags to switch the light on try your second battery to see if its the same. The switches in the 901's vary a lot. The technique is a bit different from smoking. Watch Ratindahats video on drag technique in the sticky thread in this forum. It is a different sensation from smoking but hopefully one you can get used to :thumb:

no mate, dont cover the hole...its for airflow...if you cover it your atomiser will overheat...

you shouldnt have to drag too hard to get the light on if you dont cover the hole...if its still hard to get it to go,take the battery off and give it a few sucks-minus the atomiser-in case the switch is sticking a bit...

as for the vapour...have you charged the batteries properly, and made sure the atomiser and cartridge are wet enough?

thanks so much for the info guys, i ended up buying a dse 901 with a bottle of 24mg liquid... one question u know the hole on the atomiser? do i have to hold it to inhale? coz it seems like i aint getting much smoke as i do... and have to drag rather hard to get the ligtht to switch on...is that just me or is that normal?
