Although they last a long time, regular lithium batteries only supply 1.5 volts, and aren't rechargeable. Not enough volts to power an atty. You could use 3 of them in series to power an atty @ 4.5v, but they're still not rechargeable.
However, Lithium Ion batteries [Li Ion], run at 3.7v, and a 14500 sized Li Ion battery is the same size as an AA cell.
People use the 510 at 5v, some use it at 6v, and some claim to use it at 7v, but at anything over 5v it's my understanding it gets very very harsh. Optimum voltage? Dunno, but it's made for 3.7v, although a lot use it for 5v. No idea what the lowest voltage is, since everyone wants more, not less.
