? about 5v regulator w/control

On the control leg, does it matter what the voltage is there? I've got something that puts out enough to lite up an LED, but not fire an atty, that I could use as a switch.
I guess I'm asking if that control leg acts as a trigger for the regulator & if so, what are the voltage & current needs for it.

Hi Sci. The spec shows a min of 2.0 volts to turn them on.. I've never tried them below 3.5 volts or so but looks like anything above 2.0 volts should turn them on..
