Adding in some Butterscotch sounds like an amazing idea. I'm a sucker for butterscotch custard. I stumbled on this recipe by accident, and while I do enjoy it, it has not become an ADV for me. I still find myself yearning for a good eggy/buttery/rich/creamy custard.
I've made a slew of "good" custards recently, but I'm still waiting for the one that makes me stop, stare at my dripper, and say "holy s#it!".
I was wondering if you have tried all the Vanilla Custard flavoring that is out there? I mostly have stuck with CAPs but that is because it seems to be the holy grail of VC, but I get the impression that maybe that eggyness could come from combining the VCs.
Also, French Toast has a distinct eggyness to it, have you ventured off into breakfast foods? I am not sure, but it seems that waffles should have an eggy note to them.
I also tried Oreos Custard recipe adding in butter. I don't know how it will age out, but it is an acceptable shake and vape. Personally I didn't note that it is any richer in the eggy department as any number of other mixes I have tried. Perhaps time will prove me wrong. My thinking is that no juice maker is going to use that many flavorings in those minuscule proportions. The flavor that you like in Gremlins Vanilla Custard is gotten more easily, of this I am sure, after all custard is a few ingredient dessert. For some reason, the baker in me is screaming, less is best.
That said, I am not chasing eggyness, or I should say I wasn't until I ran across this thread, curse you! I am chasing rich and savory, hence the addition of butterscotch. I am not really after a butterscotch custard, but FA butterscotch is rich and savory, my hope is that a small percentage will compliment the existing sugar caramelization (dictionary says this isn't a word!!) all ready present in VC without making it a butterscotch custard. I also have French Vanilla in the back of my head. Once I nail those notes, I just know the lack of eggyness will start to bother me... and after this discussion, I think I will start with adding some breakfast type flavors. I am not really sure what undertones these flavors have though. Still... 1 or 2% Of CAP or TFA shouldn't take over the Custard... hopefully.
Unfortunately I think the "holy s#it" juice won't be seen until you bring it out of the dark. And maybe not until it has been there for a couple of months. I have 17 in my closet, and I make a new version every couple of days. However, I have found that what I am chasing is evolving. So those I made at the beginning of this chase will more than likely be unsatisfactory.
