Accidental quit....

Hi, I'm new here. I had a go with a cigalike a while back and failed miserably then, about a fortnight ago, I saw a little display in one of our local shops. I had no intention of quitting but I just thought I'll have a go again and that was it, no cigarettes since and now I'm totally converted. I have the bog standard eGo CE4 thingy, a few flavours and a deep regret I didn't do this sooner.

As to the imminent public ban in Wales, well, isn't that typical. I give up and 'they' plan to spoil it. Always looking for a positive, vaping now becomes just a little anti-establishment and that sits very well.

I do grow my own tobacco which I smoke in a church warden pipe by the fire very occasionally. I've tried a cigarette since and it was horrible, made me feel I was dying. Strangely, the pipe doesn't and that makes me wonder just what else 'they' sneak in.

I have two flavours on the go at the moment, menthol and coffee - bliss...

Hi Enigmatica.

I tried to stop smoking using the UKs most expensive "best" cig-a-like.

Being a stubborn so and so and far too gullible to see I was being ripped off, I kept buying and buying and smoking and smoking.

Then, I got an eGo kit. Job done.

Well done on quitting smoking (congratulations!) ... do you miss the old pipe?

My original plan was to stop the cigarettes and take up the pipe with home grown tobacco but I couldn't replicate the cigarette tobacco flavour or smells. The home grown has a pleasant mild smell and a pleasant mild flavour but there's the filling, constant relighting and cleaning afterwards. I came to the conclusion that it would never replace cigarettes but could be a pleasant evening's recreation and hardly ever used it.

Now, with vaping, I've had one pipe by the fire and enjoyed it thoroughly. It wouldn't worry me if I never had another other than the waste of umpteen biscuit tins full of home-grown tobacco.

A pipe by the fire in England makes me think of Holmes and Baker St.... Anyhow....welcome to ECF and congrats on no cigarettes and doesn't seem that the pipe is causing you too much trouble at a bowlful every now and then. The pipe ritual is very akin to me of the vaping ritual. Always something to fiddle with....lol

Similar story here. I had no intention of quitting, but a member of my motorcycle club talked me into trying e-cigs. Twelve hours after receiving my Ego Starter Kit I was finished with cigarettes. Haven't had one in eight months. There were three members of the club who smoked. None of us do anymore.

I'm always amazed when I think back to getting my Ego kit and how after literally one "puff" I was done with cigarettes. It was nothing short of a miracle considering how many times I tried to quit and failed miserably. I now laugh every time I see an ad for patches, gum, etc thinking of how much I wasted. I have tasted a cigarette several times just to "gauge" my progress so to speak and they tasted awful and gave me an instant headache. Hooray for vaping and the ditching of cigarettes!!

I get really concerned when I read "E Cigs no more effective than the patch" or the latest one from SF, "E Cigs do not help smoker quit cigarettes" (nothing in article actually said that, just the headline). I know six people who vape (including myself) and all six have quit. The range from six months to over a year so it is not a passing "fad". Maybe I just don't know the "right" group of people.

Hello! First let me say good job on finally quitting. :D and then let me also say I know exactly how you feel. I've been off cigarettes for only a month now (and that's only a month of knowing any of this exists) but I've already found out they are working on banning it here. I've started seeing articles in the local newspaper about it. If you are maybe looking to join the crowd and be heard why not take a look at my signiture below :D but if not happy vaping and congrats~

Sent from my iPhone because I'm awesome like that.

It is concerning..... Many times I wonder about the "technique" of the tests being done. Are they set up properly? There are so many variables to running a good study and I'm thinking we just may be seeing some junk science to help throw some fuel on the anti-E-cig debate. Ticks me off, but hard to combat especially when you think about the money that is out there trying to either control E-cig's or quash them. Wow... I'm starting to rant.... hope I at least got my "drift" across....:D

I'm blessed to live in Pembrokeshire but we have the Welsh government's plan to ban e-cigarettes to spoil things. I'm hopeful that vapers won't take things lying down as we did with smoking. We have the moral high ground on this and, it seems, an active and vocal social media presence. I certainly will campaign for the cause....

I really don't understand this backlash to vaping. Is it just petty moralism or is big tobacco behind it?

I really think that they (Antz, Politicians, BT, BP and so on) have gone as far as they can with cigarettes. They need a new "victim" and guess what, we are it.

As the old expression goes "follow the money".... you will find the parties who are plotting the demise of vaping. Don't mean to sound overly paranoid, but they seem to be working very hard to stop vaping or if they can't stop it then taking the biggest financial stake possible. Vaping certainly is a growth industry and can't be ignored as a passing trend.
