This is the story of how I accidentally quit smoking and started vaping. I did not intend to quit smoking. Yes, I accidentally, immediately quit smoking.

Like a lot of kids, I started smoking when I was in my teens. I am now 37 years old, which means I had been smoking for about 20 years. 20 YEARS! Ugh. I smoked about 1 - 1.5 packs of Camels per day. Sure, I wanted to quit, but I was not emotionally committed to quitting. Smokers have an endless list of reasons why “now” is not a good time to quit, and I was no different. I wanted to be healthier. I did not want to stink. Alas, I was a smoker and wanting to quit is radically different from actually quitting.

About three months ago, I get an email out-of-the-blue from my oldest nephew, Kris, who is also a smoker. He tells me that he tried an electronic cigarette and did not smoke while he used it. I told him that electronic cigarettes are all junky gimmicks and I had no interest in that. Kris insisted this was different and that I should try it. He said to visit my local drugstore and get a $10 thing called a Blu Disposable. I still thought it was garbage, but I agreed to try it - mostly just to get him off my back and quit nagging me.

The next day, I was on my way to a coffee shop to sit on the patio and do some work on my laptop for a while. As promised (grudgingly!), I stopped at the drugstore and bought a Blu disposable, then I went to the coffee shop. When I sat on the patio, I had about a half pack of Camels remaining. I told myself that I would smoke those, take a couple drags on the gimmick electronic cigarette junk - just to say I tried it, then go buy another pack of Camels.

A few hours later, I had finished my remaining Camels. I rolled my eyes, opened the Blu disposable electronic cigarette, and took a drag. Hmmm, not too bad. I took another drag. “Eh, this is not as terrible as I thought,” I said to myself. Then I continued working on my laptop... ... ...

The next thing I know, it is five hours later. I had been working on my laptop, “smoking” the electronic cigarette, and I felt fine. Then I felt shocked! I had not smoked a cigarette in five hours!!! I was not craving a cigarette. I was not freaking out. I felt totally satisfied. I forgot to go buy another pack of Camels!

I looked down at the empty Camel box and the electronic cigarette in my hand. I thought to myself, “I have been smoking nothing but this electronic cigarette for the past five hours and I do not crave a real cigarette at all. Woah! I could go and buy more Camels... or... I could just keep smoking this electronic cigarette.” I decided to stick with the vape. I continued for several more hours - perfectly satisfied. On my way home, I stopped at the drugstore again and bought another disposable electronic cigarette.

It is now over three months later and I have not had a single cigarette since! I am astounded! I accidentally quit smoking!

I would like to clarify that I used six or seven of the Blu disposable electronic cigarettes over the following week until I got my first “real” vape starter kit. I have since found the Blu brand stuff to be terrible compared to some of the other great vape gear and juices available. More on that in another posting. Nonetheless, I am thankful for the Blu disposable. That “gimmick junk” totally changed my life. I accidentally quit smoking!

Congrats on the quit!!! I like vaping a whole lot more than smoking. I doubt that I'll ever smoke again. I'm not as dumb as my username states!

I tried a cheap ecig a couple of years ago & when I went back to get refills, they didn't have anymore. I gave up. Fast forward a year or so & I impulse bought an NJOY to just cut back on analogs, cause the price on analogs went up. I used it a bit, but only a few 7-11's had them & I kinda forgot them. Then my Mom died & I was going to her funeral where there were going to be family & friends who I didn't want to know I still smoked. So I bought another battery & a pack of cartomizers. I used them for the funeral & finished them up.

A few months later I saw the Kiosk in the mall with ecigs. I didn't buy the kit, but it set in motion the idea to get more info on the net. That led me to ECF. I ordered a kit on suggestions from this board which got me off analogs for almost 5 months. I smoked for 45 years +. I figure if I can do it, anyone can. I run out my last half pack, then never bought anymore.

I've only "quit" for 2 days so far, but it was pretty accidental for me too.

I was a secret smoker. My wife only thought I smoked on business trips, which I started out doing but then slid into smoking every day, trip or not.

I was only smoking 6 or 7 a day, bumping up to 1.5 packs/day on trips, (used to be a 1.5 PAD smoker in college, quit cuz she made me, then compromised on the trip thing).

I would only smoke on the way to work and at lunch, never after lunch, so she wouldn't smell it on me. Got the e-cig so that I could vape on the way home without stinking.

Since I got it, I haven't even wanted to smoke an analog....in spite of having a half pack sitting in my car. Very weird, and exciting!

Fessed up to her tonight. I've been a smoker for the past 2 years, and lying about it. She was ......, but understands, and I'll just have to give extra backrubs and footrubs to make up for it. So I'm pot committed now, but excited to be done with analogs!

Way to go! I was a bit more deliberate in starting to vape...I wanted to quit, and had tried all of the other methods and didn't manage it. I had tried e-cigs a few years ago, and it was completely unsatisfying, but I started to research them a bit, and found that there had been a lot of improvements, and the drugstore version I'd tried was really junk, and nothing compared to what was out there now.

I got my first e-cig about three months ago...an Ego. I used it every day for nearly a month, and cut down dramatically from a pack a day ( and that's a Canadian pack...25 cigs) to maybe a half dozen a day...75% reduction. I was starting to have small nagging issues with the Ego, and decided to upgrade.

Since I started using an e-cig, I'd been keeping track of what I'd normally have spent on analogs ( they are expensive in Canada...$14 a pack), and what I was spending now. I literally put the difference in a jelly jar at the end of every week. Since I was WAAY ahead financially by a month of e-cigs, even after paying for all my juice, etc. out of my jelly jar, I bought a Revolution V2. It's a big improvement for me from the Ego...longer battery run, much larger juice capacity. I was able to knock my 6 analogs a day down to 3 or 4.

Fast forward two months to last week. I was ahead financially quite a bit, and getting dissatisfied with the Revolution. It still works perfectly, but having to re-assemble it twice already from getting bumped off the table and having the case pop open, I was concerned about the durability. Also, it was a bit limiting; once you fill the tank you're sort of stuck with that juice for a couple of days, or have to deal with emptying the bottle, cleaning everything, re-filling it, the associated mess, etc.

Also I'd reached the point where vaping is a true, legit alternative in my life, I felt I could justify getting a really good mod. So, I bit the bullet and ordered a GG Stealth and an Odysseus rebuildable atty. I've had it for a week, dissasembled it so I know how it all works, built a bunch of coils so I now know how to do it right, and got things set up so that it's a really satisfying experience for me. I'm VERY close now...VERY close to ditching analogs for good and vaping full time, all the time.

I was initially a bit nervous about spending that much on a mod, but the instant I opened the package, I knew I'd made the right choice. All the anxiety and nervousness disappeared, and I could really admire a beautifully made mod, that now I've got things dialed in and figured out, produces huge clouds of tasty, rich vapor.

Today was a first; I did not have the "waking up" analog. I reached for the Stealth instead and was completely satisfied by it...something that had never happened with my other two devices. I really think that my analog days are coming to an end, very, very soon.
