Accidentally shorted protected 18650 - Still safe?

I had two 18650s with torn up wraps so I went to replace the wraps and one battery had the second layer of insulation torn near the protection circuit wire so to be safe (the irony) I decided to remove the IC completely before putting on new wraps. Stupidly, I was using the same razor to cut the IC off the negative end that I used for the outer wrap and accidentally shorted it twice for a split second on the battery. No heat or smoke or venting, just a tiny spark. Battery needed to be charged before I started but afterward I checked voltage at 3.7+. Decided I better get some opinions before I charge or use it.

In other news, I will make sure to use plastic tools in future stupid moves. I did get something right, I was outside and wearing leather gloves and safety goggles with an open metal garbage can below the battery.

Like Ken said it sounds like you have a battery unsuited for vaping in the first place. Can you share what make and model it is, as well as pictures so we can confirm that.
A discharge strong enough to cause a spark may or may not have damaged the cell, it's hard to say. batteries are the most important part of an ecig, they are also the most dangerous and the cheapest. My advise is always the same, if in doubt recycle and replace.

Not worth the danger probably and it was Just Yesterday I was using a protected Samsung 25 button top and the bunch of folks above talked me out of it.

I have to give my husband 3 of those things (I destroyed the first one by being like, "what is this weird thing I have accidentally obtained) and like, I'm a hoarder so it's very hard for me.

You can do it, toss it. LOL,.

You already asked about the proper batteries to use in this thread from a couple of weeks ago: Eleaf istick pico battery size?

Everyone told you not to use the protected batteries that you already had, so why were you still using them?

You should only use unprotected HIGH DRAIN batteries in a mod as previously recommended in that thread and this one.

Protected high capacity batteries are low drain batteries suitable only for low drain applications like a flashlight or portable radio.

NO ONE here can tell you whether a shorted battery has been damaged enough to use or not use. Any damage would be internal and not visible to the naked eye. It's not worth the risk. Recylce that battery appropriately by taping the positive end and disposing it in a battery recycling center at your Home Depot or Lowes.

I'm not using them in my pico. I was using them in my vamo2 for years without any issue, but that was only at around 9-11 watts with 2.4ohm atomizers. Recently the wraps started getting scraped up and I wanted to salvage them to use in my flashlights. Nice work on the research though :)

They are Eastshine 3500mah. Like I said though, they worked fine in my vamo2 but I didn't realize they were 4A discharge until I got the pico. Now I just wanted to use them in my lights which have protection circuits.

Actually I was wrong. I thought it was weird when I looked up the Eastshine E35 on Amazon it said 4A discharge and explicitly states "NOT FOR VAPING" and I didn't remember it saying that when I ordered them a long time ago. Now I looked up my actual order and it's the Eastshine E35U which has 10A discharge. Still not safe for the pico, but that's not what I want it for. I just wasn't sure if a quick spark was a huge deal or not since it had the protection circuit.

Yes, I have a hard time getting rid of stuff too. I just put new wraps on these things too after that happened and I didn't want to use the shorted one.

Agreed, I just thought with a quick spark and the protection circuit without any other symptons it would probably be safe, but apparently it's now more in the wildcard category.
