I hate to ask newbie questions that can easily be answered by a forum search about the question that's already been asked/answered 100 times, but unfortunately here there are SO many experts and SO many opinions and SO many rightful biases & prejudices that I don't feel obtuse or research lazy by offering my specific situation and soliciting specific recommendations.

That said, I started with Joye 510s. Worked for a little while, got me into the activity (ok, obsession) of vaping, got off analogs. They got old fast; short battery life, leaky attys, constant topping off, lack of vapor, lack of flavor, no satisfaction once they became my sole source of nicotine and oral pacification. Tried cartos with little change, juices from a bunch of places in various forms/strengths, still lacking. Found out I'm a flavor/vapor person, TH is my last priority.

Moved up to the eGo. Big improvement, for a little while. Currently using a 1000 mA eGo-T battery with LR attys and large cartridges. Didn't get enough zoom from the SR attys, have had limited success with cartos. Tried some EMDCCs, with disappointingly less vapor or flavor than with the LR atty/cart setup with the same juice. I've tried filling via the condom method, syringe method, rhythm method, name it, same result. I can be satisfied dripping onto the LR atty and topping off the cart every six or eight hits, and then the atty's dry. Too much fiddling, especially at work or in the car.

So, logically, it's time for a mod. If I thought the e-cigs themselves offered a confusing assortment of choices, mods seem to be the mother lode. After much reading, I was somewhat committed to trying a Reo. Unfortunately they're apparently unavailable anywhere in this solar system as everyone decided to commit to a Reo at about the same time. Looked at sparkplugs, but they seem to use a different thread system than the 510 and I have a considerable amount of 510 threaded equipment I would rather employ on a mod than replace it all. Switch placement on the SP puzzled me as well. The bottom feeders appeal to me for simplicity and drip-similar effect but there don't seem to be a lot of bottom feeders developed yet. Periodic maintenance doesn't scare me, but continual nurturing to keep a device satisfactorily operational turns me off.

Mod brand/type loyalty abounds here as much as in the motorcycle world, understandably, but the "Just get a ____" statements left to stand alone haven't helped me much. Sorry this is long, but I wanted to document as much data as my limited experience will allow to work with before appealing to the Zen gurus of vaping to offer input on a sensible entry level mod. Price is irrelevant, availability is not.

Your input is much appreciated!

Our very own DonDaBoomVape has an excellent guide called The Wonderful World of Mods; An Illustrated Guide. Don does a wonderful job of explaining all you need to know before you choose a mod.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...5-wonderful-world-mods-illustrated-guide.html

I'm also including a link to a thread created by user AlmightyGod listing current bottom feeder offerings with links to the seller. Lots of opinions from people using different brands of bottom feeders....this might help with the pros and cons of each model.

I too was curious about bottom feeders and purchased an inexpensive Old Goat mod to try before committing to a more expensive one. It is plastic but it has been a workhorse and quickly became my favorite PV. This might be an option for you to try one out as well. I believe there are several vendors that offer low priced ones to get you started.

Good luck with the mod you choose.

A mod is not going to save you from having to top off cartomizers ... unless you get a juice feeder like the Reo. The SparkPlug certainly will not. If "price is irrelevant," I'm surprised that you considered it. It is a decent mod, but its main claim to fame is low price.

The Reo certainly is one of the best juice feeders, but it is not the only one. The Ali'i has always seemed to me to be particularly beautiful and well shaped. Since it is neither metal nor solid wood, it isn't as sturdy as the Reo; I wouldn't drop it from great heights. From what I've read, Phonosmoak's Phidias is well respected, e.g., there are over 24,000 posts in the http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...rs-forum/122134-phidias-celebration-sale.html thread. Watch video reviews (and read the written ones) about the others.

Other than juice feeders, a mod has the potential of delivering more power, mAh, and/or ability to use LR attys/cartos reliably. [LR really is not recommended for fat batts ... although most of us use them on our eGos, Rivas, KGOs, etc. anyway.]
  • Compared to the 1000 mAh eGo, you really need to go to the 18650-based mods (or 26650-based Helix if you are really greedy) to notice a significant increase in mAh.
  • To get an increase in power (based only on the battery), you're looking at 5V, 6V, or VV. [I think the dual coils especially blossom at 5V or at VV settings around 4.5V.]
  • But a 3.7V mod (especially with an IMR high-drain battery) using an LR atty or carto matches their power. Recently, I've been reading/watching some great things about the 1.7 ohm Smok Tech single coil "Resurectors" from Crystal Clear Vaping as being great at 3.7V or even the eGo's 3.2V.
ViZi's e-Cigarette Mods Database is the definitive listing of mods. Thank you, beckah, for recommending my own Wonderful World of Mods guide. Although it is now out-of-date with the examples, I think it can be helpful in identifying the parameters of your choice.

hello fellow rider. here is my $0.02 based on your statement Price is irrelevant, availability is not:

most of the very popular feeding devices are very hard to come by. the manufacturers will list when units will be available, and its like shopping on black friday. or you can sometimes find them used in the classified. make no mistake, they are popular for a reason - they work well.

from an availability perspective, you may also want to consider the relatively new vmod from vapage, which i quasi-reviewed here.
