Thought i would share my story that i think is kinda strange..I've been analog free for 15 days now..My overall health has inproved alot...Yesterday morning i woke up with a chest cold and it was very hard for me to take a deep breath which i never had that problem before with a chest cold.. i started to crave my nicotine fix for the day so i started vaping and the shortness of breath got worse i had to stop vaping...so i went to the store and got a pack of analogs.. got back home opened the pack and lite one up..here's the funny part the shortness of breath went away after smoking the analog..I cant understand why i could smoke a analog cig with a chest cold but i cant vape..Has anyone else been through this with a cold?

I actually have the remnants of a cold right now, but the only thing noteworthy for me was that on the worst day of it I couldn't taste my e-cig! That was really annoying ;)

This is the second cold I've had in the 7 months I've been vaping and both times the cold only lasted 3 days before turning into the minor nose blowing phase. As a smoker, my colds would last a week or more and always move into my chest causing a lingering cough. One thing I used to notice about analogs, though, is they acted as an irritant that would actually help get a stuffy nose blowable and a congested chest coughable. That doesn't make them a good thing, obviously. It's just an observation I'd noticed about myself and maybe you experienced something similar.

Baby steps VV, baby steps. One misstep on your road doesnt mean a fail, it means a misstep. I've noticed a cig or cig smoke from others can get me coughing and it really clears my chest out, but also starting vaping (after stopping smoking) means all the lung crap will start to come out too. If you get a cold at that time, breathing will be an issue because of it, AND the cold. Try breathing steam, that helps even if you still smoke, to clear your lungs out during a cold.
Put a pot of water on the stove til it boils, then take it off the heat, put it somehwere it wont burn the surface of, cover it and your head with something like a towel and inhale through your mouth. Take your head out of the towel from time to time so you can cough up anything or blow your nose. Don't put your face too close to the water because you can burn your lips on the steam, and be careful if you have a cold sore as this will make it worse.
I hope you feel better soon and can get back to vaping :)

I myself have shortness of breath pretty bad when I'm having a nicotine withdrawal. It is like pressure on my chest I think caused by the stress of not having a cigarette. I've had this every time I've quit smoking. I usually come pretty close to a full blown panic attack when I go without a ciggie for any length of time. Also, an addicted brain will do NUMEROUS things to your body to try to convince you to smoke. It is amazing how very strong our brains can be when they want something.

I have to say that although I haven't smoked a tobacco ciggy in several weeks I still have those times when it is REALLY hard and I feel like my body is going to explode any minute. I can vape through it and it will go away. These episodes are becoming fewer and farther between.

I couldn't vape when I had a cold either. Not sure why. I had pretty much the same experience that you had though. My cold came when I was about 7 days ciggie free, and I did the exact same thing with the same results. Odd. I don't vape or smoke ciggies at all now and I had a cold a few months ago. I was APPALLED at the amount of nasal drainage I had. Never in my life have I had that much, so I do think ciggies do something that limits that, at least in me.

this i find to be very true, definitely an anxiety attack and the reason i was not able to quit smoking for years and years. i've made it with the e-cigs and i'm not looking back. maybe the op should phase out the analogs gradually, that worked for me and took about 10 days. good luck and don't give up

Is there something more to this difficulty of breathing with vaping? i see people saying it a lot on the forum, and like the four or five people i know in person who started vaping the smoke51's from the mall stopped because of the same problem. They said they were having trouble catching their breath. I mean its possible its anxiety from quitting smoking, but isnt it possible that its a reaction from the vape itself?

I have a friend who quit analogs cold turkey 20 yrs ago. I showed him my ecig, he tried it, said it hurt like knives in his lungs and also he had a bad coughing fit. After 7 mos analog free I still have times when I cannot catch my breath. I think it just is part of vaping since ideally if we had never become addicted to cigs our lungs would only have air and air pollutants in them.

This is a very misunderstood effect of quitting smoking. Even those that never vaped experiance the shortness of breath after quitting smoking Google it and see for yourself.
It is because the cilla in your lungs ( which were paralized from smoking ) are now starting to work again to move the gunk in your lungs out. This causes blockages in the lung
airways and makes you short of breath until the gunk is expelled.
Smoking shuts down the cilla again more or less puts it to sleep, therefore you can breath again , but the gunk is not moving anymore .
I was short of breath too for about 2 weeks, then it passed , along with a bunch of mucus.

Exactly.

It took 6 weeks in my case.

normal detox, you don't really get much nicotine and on top of that there are tons of additives and natural chems in cigarettes that make nicotine more effective.

vaping is so close to going cold turkey that they are almost the same thing.

one of these days i'm going to break down and get a nic blood test and post the results my guess there is hardly any in my system and when i'm not at work I vape 24mg like a fiend.

I went thru the same thing during this last cold. Couldn't vape well at all and was getting crabby. What I did was use a 510 carto and up my mod batteries to six volts. Wasn't as hard to draw and I was getting a decent hit to satisfy my nicotine monster. It was tough on the throat which was already sore but unlike when I used analogs, I didn't wind up with a massive sinus infection like I have had in the past. Even during this rain and the up and down temps etc spring weather, I have noticed a sharp decrease in sinus headaches.

So if you never ever cough up gunk after quitting analogs, does it just stay in your lungs? I quit 7 mos ago and not once has anything ever come up.

I don't know, I haven't either. Don't really feel better either. I know you must be frustrated with all the "It's Great" posts. I've had the weight gain, lethargic, just don't give a damm. Just banking on the "I quit smoking" game. It's a little over rated. Trying snus and stonewalls. They help. The e-cig is more of a pacifier.

Bellasin, maybe because you were smoking unfiltered organic tobacco without additives. I have read on the internet that it is the plastic filters that get into the lungs and stay there! They can never be absorbed by the lungs, which just creates obviously no problems.

I never really coughed anything up either when I tried quitting cigs. But i mainly smoked organic additive free, and mainly i rolled my own.

The two oldest woman in the world both smoked. They lived till around 125. They didn't smoke filters. Maybe coincidence?

You guys are crazy... There is no way I could ever be a smoker again.

I've experience quite the opposite over the course of 6 weeks or so. In the beginning when I thought about analogs, I would just vape some more and the urge passed...

After 2 weeks, I had a couple drags on a friend's analog. Yuck.

All the while, I am experiencing congestion when I sleep with heavy hawking in the morning shower. My health is steadily improving. Clearly.

After 6 weeks, I could give a crap for analogs and am seeing them I guess the same way a non-smoker might. That stuff is heavy and acrid. It's black and filmy. Dude...

There is no way I could ever be a smoker again.
